1990 Guards red 944 turbo SE

3 owners but the first for just 9 months, second for 17 years and I’ve had it for 3 years. Substantial SH - the second owner used one specialist garage local to him and as such each and every piece of work has been documented back to the part exchange paperwork from Sytners in Nottingham in 1991.

The car had been off the road for a 18 months when I bought it due to failing health of the PO and I had it fully recommissioned by the same garage before collection.
I have then run it daily and gradually resolved anything that has arisen.

I now consider it to be a reliable car for daily use. I don’t expect to fix much at MOTs now and most changes are now upgrades and optional. It is however 21 years old and occasional issues will and do crop up.

In the last 3 years the following has been done:
£4K bill from 2004 for a top end rebuild, new radiator and cooling system, new cylinder head gasket – the last major bill from the PO.

In my care:
discs/pads/sensors all round
thermostats x 2
turbo water pump
4 wheel bearings
belts (twice!) (sept 09)
water pump (sept 09)
arb bushes
clutch – OEM sachs kit, master, slave and flexi pipe all replaced.
Bosch silver battery
alternator and belt
abs pump and system overhauled - new wheel sensors
Promax boost enhancer fitted and vacuum system checked and fixed – boost kicks in around 3200rpm and is well into its stride at 4000rpm
Sills checked, repaired where necessary and Dynax S50 in the sill cavities
Front lower wings repaired
ESS front splitter fitted and painted guards red
New front side light
New suspension (stock springs and dampers) and full 4 wheel geometry
MOT Aug 2012 Tax July 2012

All work done at Steve Bull Specialist Cars, Devizes, Porschemode (Bristol) and Jon Mitchells Garage in Christchurch.

Interior:
Heated sports seats in linen leather and in excellent condition
Clubsport steering wheel
Becker Indianapolis satnav system (try finding one of these)
Refurbed (Lepsons) CS alloys with new (Mar 2011) Toyo T1Rs
10 speaker option from new
Clock works,
thatcham cat 1 alarm.
Split seats with original luggage cover in place and intact
Options sticker in place in boot.
Full service book, OEM and maybe original supply mats.
Original radio available – needs a refurb
AC delete kit fitted. It has worked in my ownership but the compressor needed replacing, weighed a ton and I have no need for it so out it came.

Car currently on 237K. The PO used the vehicle for work when a new car and put 90K on in the first 3 years. Its maintenance whilst in his care was appropriate for this mileage and is fully documented.

Favourable compression and leak down results from a known specialist this summer available.

Not very many of the important parts of the car have actually done all 237K
Selling as I am looking to trade up but I’ll happily keep it. Px manual 996 turbo only.

£6500 now £6000

Andy You might get away with it if it was BLUE!

Snap David, another very nice well looked after Guards red Turbo, (with some of its TLC at JMG I see!)
Mine also I believe originated from Nottingham -> Merlin Porsche Dealer (code 1621) in 1990

I also wish you luck with your sale (Hope you have tried a 996 Turbo before you part with it :) mine was for sale but I have very happily kept it! :bounce: )

Have tried a 996T and it is rather nice but I'm just testing the water really.
Writing the ad made me realise just how much work (and money!) I've put into it and a few pertinent mods would make it a whole heap better but I'll let fate decide.
I'm in fortunate position that I can buy a 996T so might as well take advantage of it - I'd love to have both but I don't have enough covered space - other things in there!

It would be much cheaper to modify mine and I know the car is up to it so I may well do that.
Certainly shan't be giving it away.

So nothing serious so far, maybe the mileage is putting people off.
I can’t pretend it isn’t there but it’s well worth a look as there really isn’t a great deal wrong with it.
Reduced to £6000 – come and see for yourself?
