Hi,

I'm new here, so thought I'd say hello. :)

About a week ago I bought this:
Image

It's a 1983 Porsche 924 - a Lux, I think I'm right in saying - and I'm loving the combination of balanced handling, retro charm and everyday usability.

Technically, it's my second 924, but my first one - a 1988 924S - was some time ago and I didn't have it for very long. The aim is to keep this one long-term and use it as my only car once I've sold my other toy.

It's generally in pretty good nick (in fact it's probably the smartest car I've owned cosmetically), but a few issues have come to light already: the brakes are pretty feeble (even by 1983 standards - it feels like the fluid hasn't been changed in aeons); the battery isn't quite holding charge I don't think (starter feels rather laboured on cold starts, but okay when warm) and I think the front right wheel bearing is going (there's a graunching noise and a bit of rumbling through the steering under heavy left-hand cornering that you don't get when driving more sedately) ... so it looks like it'll be keeping me busy. But I love it.

Chris

Hi Chris,

Welcome to the club/forum. Your motor looks to be in great nick though obviously there's a few bits to sort out. The joys of classic car motoring! :D

Regards, Elliot

Hi Chris & welcome, fair few 924 owners here who'll help. That looks good though. Brakes are probably lack of use & the rears which are drums need a good clean & adjust.

Hi and welcome :hello2: I sold my 924 years ago but I've still got the haynes manual. If you want it, drop me a PM with your address and I'll post it to you. Your car looks in great condition, so once you've cured the issues it'll be a good one.

Seems you insist! :)

I only have a handful of shots at the moment. Here's another couple from the set above:

And I'm not sure how long this will remain 'live' but here's an interior pic from the original advert:

If anything, it's in better nick than those would suggest. There's a tiny bit of rust that's been cleaned up and treated on the inside lip one of the rear arches (presumably as a result of a stone chip or something), but that's more or less the only blemish.

I just love the combination of fun and practicality. I've run quite a few sports cars in the past, but I really like the fact you can still use the 924 for just about anything you'd throw at a modern saloon car. Everything just works exactly how you want it to and there's something very Porsche about that I think (despite what some people might say about the car's origins ;))

Hi and welcome!,

A fine example of a classic. I hope like myself you'll have loads of fun and look forward to attending the shows next year.

Very pretty. I've always liked the cleanness of the 924's lines.
