964 upgrade for track & road use

I am thinking about buying a 964 with good bodywork. stripping out the engine, gearbox, susp, exhaust etc, and rebuilding for use as a track day car with some road use. I would hope to get around 350-400BHP and with a lighter car would hope to get GT3 performance .I already have a good mechanic who does this for a living and he would do this for me.

The alternative for me is to buy a 997 Gen1 GT3.
I currently have a 996 Targa.

the advantage of 964 conversion is that it should save me around £20k, would be a fun project, I wouldn't suffer as much depn as Gt3, and hopefully it would be a great track car.

As this would be my first project of this type I would be interested in any opinions, especially form who has done this before

For what it's worth, if you want GT3 performance buy a GT3.

There are lots out there that haven't seen a track day, a 996 MK2 won't lose you any money and it will be much easier to sell should you ever need to.
