Recommended car body shops north England (willing to travel)

Post by hulme »

Hi I own a 928 s4 which is need of a good respray (bubbling, rust, lacquer peel etc).

Has quite a bit of sentimental value so looking for an excellent job. Has anyone got good experiences and willing to recommend?

Thanks in advance.

Hi and welcome. :hello2:

I'm sure there is some recommendations on the 928 uk site. I remember a write up going into detail about how much paint and lacquer it takes. If I find it. I'll put a link up. Good luck, however we will need before and after pictures. :thumbleft:

Hi thanks for your help, it would be great if you can find the link and I will def post pics.

The poor car looks a bit sad at the moment and as owner I take full responsibility (although the 928 was in this condition when I bought it).

The car drives so well I don't want to ruin it with a poor finish, but accept it will prob never be concours (but can still dream).

Thanks again for anyone who can help.

I was just being lazy earlier, found it no problem. 928 re-paint link. Steve Taylor got his done up here in Scotland, which is where mine will go hopefully. I think you really need somewhere that has done a 928 before as they guy who done Steve's up here said it took quite a few weeks just to learn how to take the trim off. Now he knows how to do it, he has said it should take 3 weeks to do mine. Let us know what you decide. :D

Thanks Lee,

What kind of money are we looking at and where abouts in scotland is the body shop?

There are a number of places in Newcastle (where I am from) that are supposed to be decent and have experience with 928's, but I want to shop around and speak to a few before going ahead. Prices I have so far are between 3k - 5.5k. Cheers.

The body shop is in Motherwell, central Scotland. Steve brought his up from Hartlepool? or there about to get his done. I think you will be nearer £3k than £5k for it? Our RO up here, FlashGordon, got his 944 S2 done there and he has helped out club members before. Maybe better asking in the 928 section of the forum for the NE guys to spot your post ( now you've posted 3 times you don't need to wait for approval ). Perhaps the 928 UK mailing list would get you someone local to you who knows a good body shop. :D
