Re: 944 audio install
Interested in this thread as i have just managed to acquire a Becker Grand Prix.
Sound in my car is really bad, and i guess its the speakers.
I would one day like to follow what you have done, but i dont have the ten speaker package.

Re: 944 audio install
U could quite easily replicate the ten speaker package. Bear in mind that all the extra speakers were replaced, plus he added another in the stander spot so he got 12 speakers now.

Re: 944 audio install
the 10 speaker package is allways coming up on ebay and they sell for next to nothing, actually you only need the grilles and the mounting box....everything else is scrapped ..rav wrote:I would one day like to follow what you have done, but i dont have the ten speaker package.
.
The standard speaker grille was used to make a feature of the crossover so actually I have a Woofer, MID and Tweeter in each door they are the best 3 way I could find that fit, and at £180 fitted my budget the rears I am considering 6" coaxials the rear factory grilles are quite small so I want to maximize the available uncovered area.t3rra wrote:plus he added another in the stander spot so he got 12 speakers now
I am undesided about the SUB I would like to mount it in the rear seat with a plain black grille but room is very tight I have also considered an underseat active sub or I will custom fibreglass pods in the rear but whatever I it needs to look like it was a factory install.
I am open to any ideas!

It really isn't my thing, but is this what you're interested in - the HI-Fi stuff not the car.

Re: 944 audio install
I have a 9" sub mounted in a custom MDF box filling the storage cubby under the boot carpet on the drivers’ side.kongsodoken wrote:I am undesided about the SUB I would like to mount it in the rear seat with a plain black grille but room is very tight I have also considered an underseat active sub or I will custom fibreglass pods in the rear but whatever I it needs to look like it was a factory install.

Totally invisible with the carpet flap over the top, after removing the padding on the underside of said carpet flap. I have a small amp mounted vertically inside the spare wheel, so that’s hidden too.

Re: 944 audio install
Yep, just like that but on the other side (the battery is in the left side cubby on oval-dash cars).
I don’t have a mesh over the speaker, I have the boot carpet laid on top instead. With the foam padding removed, the carpet is light enough to not affect the sound.
I’ll try and remember to take some pictures over the weekend.

Re: 944 audio install
Fitted the rear speakers today, went for 6" vibe coaxials ....I think this maybe a mistake
but as I had the windows out and was stuck for time I went ahead and installed them........If I was doing it again I would use 5x7 and mount them on the side so they follow the grille shape.....I'm not expecting much from the rears so I guess these wiil do

Re: 944 audio install
The factory grilles are quite restrictive so I removed the mesh and cut the plastic to give the largest opening possible, painted the mesh and re-fitted.......on the right is standard grille

Re: 944 audio install
OK
here we go for the next exciting update on my audio install.........no good shouting stop as the bloody thing is so loud my ears are still ringing form trying to tune the amp
I have purchased a Pioneer subwoofer that is just over 2" thk....so I have decided to build a false floor in the boot area to hide the sub and amps etc......this works well as I have never been happy with the boot carpet
this took me 2 days work and tomorrow I will be installing the floor here we go
first I added sound deadening to the boot area and spare wheel well
this was really good stuff purchased on ebay for £13 has a chequer board effect
