Hi All

Just posted this on Rennlist but thought I would post it here as well...


As the title says, does anyone know what is the current World record for any 928 on the quarter ???

All I can find is this , on Dragtimes >> http://www.dragtimes.com/Porsche--928-Drag-Racing.html which makes it 12.434 unless anyone has proof of a faster time ??

At the moment , assuming that list is correct , I am fourth fastest in the world..

The reason I am asking is that later this year I will be running a couple of times on the quarter and although I will keep my Top Speed wheels/tyres etc on, I think as I am slowly ramping up my Nitrous system that a couple of tenths to go into second in the world will be reasonably easy but its a big step to gain another 7/10 ths of a second to be the quickest in the world.

I would hate to manage that and then find its not enough lol

At Santapod and also at Thorney Island in Hampshire... those are confirmed, but I sometimes get invited to other events so may run elsewhere as well....

Having said that and as I have said before, I designed my car to run Top Speeds so dragging it puts more strain on it than I like so IF i manage to take the world record on the 1/4 I probably wont run it again until someone beats me....

Although on the Rennlist thread about this http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforums/9 ... -928s.html there are apparently over 100 other cars faster than the number 1 on that Dragtimes list...although personally I doubt that and would need to see some time slips to prove them lol

There's now a scan on Rennlist of a slip for 11.495 so that moves your target by a whole second

I will eat my hat if thats a slip for a 928... I used to drag race for a living in Top Fuel and I have seen thousands of slips lol...and a lot of them were genuine...but not that one or two others in that thread

I think I will go by the Dragtimes list

Or just not bother with record runs..lol ...just run for fun and if I take a record, I probably wont bother telling anyone

I get so much hassle on Rennlist, I am not sure why I bother posting there....

I suspect its because they dont like the thought that a Nitrous system on a banged up daily driver can beat their drastically expensive superchargers

Well I don't have your extensive experience but, out of interest, what makes you think the 11.495 time isn't genuine - is it simply that you don't think it's possible in a 928, regardless of any modifications (and how far can one modify a 928 before it no longer counts as a 928)?

As far as I can see there's no official "928 1/4 mile World Record" - it's just "The Fastest Time Claimed for a 928 where the slip has been posted on the Internet" and, unless you can disprove the times posted in that Rennlist thread, that's the target you have to beat!



Indeed, you currently have the best UK 1/4 mile time and top speed, so why not be happy with that rather than getting into some willy-waving competition with the (mainly) US posters on Rennlist? And I'm sure if you do continue and get better times you won't be able to resist telling everyone anyway

If you look at those slips..there is no proof that they are from a 928 or a bike or a truck lol....its an old drag racing trick.... just wander around at any drag race track at the end of a meeting and you can pick up tickets from the floor...

But if you check my ticket posted here and also on Dragtimes you will see a number on it...thats my Race number for the day...if you then look at the pics of my car on that day you will see the same number on my rear side quarter window...its 204 by the way.. that number is allocated at scrutineering on the day and can be checked....

To be honest I am a lot more interested in increasing my Top Speed record than in dragging these days...

I think that to run 11s you will have to change the car set up.The car just wont launch right set up for the road or circuit.
11s wouldnt be too difficult with nos on slicks.With the right set up,a diet and gbox mods and a bit of trial and error and I dont see any reason a streetable high 10 isnt unachievable.

You are correct of course...

If I changed my diff and put on smaller wheels and drag slicks it would give me a much better time...easily into the 12`s and just possibly into the 11`s...but I seriously doubt 10`s as that into Veyron territory, which although I do have that sort of power, I do not have the traction control electronics it has unfortunately

The way I look at it is that I do now hold the UK 928 record and IF anyone beats it I can fairly easily take it back, so probably wont alter anything until I need to...

I am still working on my aerodynamics to improve my 208 mph top speed record and concentrating on that at the moment....
