Hi All,

have any of you tried using the Dynamix leather dye? The linen leather in mine is in good condition but it's very dirty..... I've tried the usual leather cleaners but they've made very little difference.

I've searched the internet and the results with Dynamix look very good.

Comments or suggestions?

My Brother-in-Law used a kit from here;

http://www.furnitureclinic.co.uk/

on the blue leather in his Carrera 3.2 and the results look very impressive.

The kit he bought cost £50 and came complete with a Badger air brush to apply the dye and sealer. I think that the guy used a spectrophotometer to measure the colour of the seat and then match the dye.

My seats are light grey (very similar to linen, but less yellow) and are looking a bit tired in places so I'm going to get one of the kits and give it a go too.

Always apply cleaner with a soft brush to damp seats, take your time, get to vigourous and you'll just make them shiny, they didn't get dirty in one go and you won't get them clean in one go either. Not tried Dynamix, or other dyes, I used Race Glaze cleaner/conditioner and have had my seats praised at meets

OK.... rightly or wrongly I've decided to go the dynamix route. Hopefully I'm going to make a start this weekend. If anyone is interested in how i get on let me know and I'll post some before and after pictures.

Definately need to get them clean before you try the dye or you'll finish up putting the dye on top of the grime.

what's the best cleaner to use? I tried the zymol stuff and it didn't touch them. I got some good results with airiel washing powder on my door handle/arm rests. My seats are pretty good, just dirty.

Ben

I've been using the dynamix to dye the leather in mine and the results so far are amazing. The driver seat now looks brand new again..... it took 5 coats though.

I tried various leather cleaners and not matter how hard i tried i wasn't getting the result i wanted so decided the dye route was best for me and so far I'm very pleased. I haven't finished the interior yet due to the car having a problem which is priority at the moment.

I followed the instructions that came with the dye and cleaned mine with meths before i applied the dye but if you just want to clean then i wouldn't suggest meths as it seemed to remove some of the old dye too.

Hope that helps.

Gliptone leather cleaner is the business. I'd tried some others without much effect. They advertise in Classic car magazine & are endorsed by Jag & Aston. You don't need water so the leather isn't wet. They are dry to use in an hour afterwards. Truly astonishing results. My Linen leather had black patches on it from getting into the car with oily overalls. Even the guy who made it thought it was too bad to clean. But it worked. They also do a conditioner that makes a big improvement. As well as dye's & liquid Leather for the cracks. But a good clean is the first step. Did mine in car in an afternoon. (With a nail brush.) :) (Both bottles cost a tenner.)

Edit: During the afternoon applied the cleaner 3 times to the worst parts. Back seats only needed once.

As a trimmer I have read with interest this thread but would strongly advise against using Meths to clean any leather. as spencer 77 discovered it will remove the top surface of the leather in an instant.
As for a cleaner I would not clean any leather with anything stronger than good old white spirit and a soft lint free cloth.

I must say the Meths was quite scary using it and i don't think i'll do the rest of the interior with meths. But as for the dye it works a treat.

I also use Gliptone leather cleaner and Gliptone leather conditioner

I buy through LB Restoration Services (01208 269 746) Bodmin, Cornwall.

The latest prices I have are £5:50 for the cleaner and £6:50 for the conditioner, for 250 ml. (Classic Car Show, NEC, November 2007).

It takes more than one application of each to get dirty leather really clean, lots of care and patience needed.

LB will also provide colour dyes to match your interior, just send them a small patch about the size of a thumb nail. Have not tried that service but looking to in the near future.
