Hi all,

Does anyone know where to source the flaming eye solution for the 944 instrument cluster?

I've tried www.flamingeye.co.uk but found nothing. Does anyone know if the product is still available?

I'd love to buy his product - the standard lighting sucks big time!

I know of the clarks garage option and may have to go down this road. The flaming eye solution is my preference.

It hasn't been available for a good while now. It's why I went to Maplin for some LED's. There's already a thread on improving the dash lights............ viewtopic.php?f=25&t=10598

I think that something similar is available from Jaeger Engineering in the States, but it isn't cheap.

I took a cheaper route and bought some tower LEDs (the ones with the emitters pointing in all different directions) and they work very well.

How many bulbs were on ur LEDs ? Would 6 at the front be better then 1 and 4 on each side? Think I'm going 2 try swapping out the blue LEDs from halfords 4 some stronger White light

I can't really remember, but I think that there were 4 on each side and a couple on the end which gives a good spread of light.

Ok, thanks. Will get some side ones and front ones, as I need 3 and they come in packets off 2. See which works best.

T3rra, can you send me a link to the bulbs you're buying? Im probably otherwise going to buythe wrong ones.

I'm also interested in buying the stip of led lights and placing it on the reflective area. This is what I think I'd need to buy. http://mobile.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=218015

Would putting two of these be too much in terms of voltage etc? (ignoring how much light 2 two strips would generate.)

Assuming I buy the led strip, wha else do I need? I.e. How do I get power to the strip?

Apologies in advance if these are dumb questions but I've not done this before have to ask...

The FlamingEye kits were by far the best option, but are no longer available. They sometimes show up on eBay because a few people bought and never fitted—but the prices are very high when that happens.

Jager Engineering (or Garage 9) in Canada do a version which is almost as good.
Here’s a link

Jager’s kit is expensive and shipping over here even more so. If you then get caught for import duty as well, it’s astronomical. However, if money’s not too much of an object, it’s a good kit and well made. Just a little bit less diffused than the old FlamingEye ones—the FlamingEye kits gave a lovely even spread of light whereas the Jager ones can be a bit more like tiny spotlights shining up onto your dials.

Yeah I will do, can do at the mo, but will later. There 501 12v led wedge bulbs. Off eBay, going 2 try the cheaper ones. As 4 led strip u would need 2 remove the glass I believe and place the bulbs facing the clocks. The LCDs actually shine behind the clocks and are reflected back on 2 the face off the clocks, so ur need 2 insure the prism are very reflective. I won't say much more as u may all ready know this. If not r email u some pics

I think that the LEDs I used were similar to this but in blue;

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/New-Side-Light-Xe ... 3f059c6d4b

I tried the ones that looked similar to the ordinary bulbs but with a frosted cap to diffuse the light better, but they weren't bright enough. My second attempt was much better and gives a good spread of light over the whole cluster.

Would this bulb do the trick? Or are they too long at 32mm?

http://www.autobulbsdirect.co.uk/501-Long-LED-Extreme-Power-2W-360-degree.html

I've already taken the cluster out and 'cleaned' the old silver finish. Will be preparing the silver foil next and hopefully attach the bulbs by the weekend. (Provided I can find the right ones.)
