I noticed yesterday that my 944 started to over heat in stop/go traffic and the fan did not seem to cut in . The same thing happened today so when i returned home i checked the fuse (number 10) which was fine but the other fan fuse (number 15) had blown . Thinking it would be an easy fix i replaced it but it blew straight away (fan never moved). Any ideas what would cause the fuse to keep blowing ? seized fan motor perhaps ? I don't have any real mechanical experience so any suggestions or experiences of similar problems would be appreciated before i start blundering around under the bonnet tomorrow. I've only had the car a few months , its done a very low mileage over the last few years but the fan seemed to work fine before yesterday .

A seized fan is the most common cause , when there not getting used the inner workings fur up and lock the fan into place ,if you can't spin the fan by hand then this is the cause , you can
sometimes free the fan by spraying liberal amounts of wd40 in the fan motor and gently working the blades back and fourth ... another cause is a positive cable shorting to earth so if the fan spins the look for this ... hope this helps

GSF have new fan motors for around a £100 I think. Was considering one for mine........ Probably get one off ebay for a tenner.

Thanks guys , just wanted to check on here what the advice was before I tried forcing the fan (if indeed its stuck) in case it would damage it further . It'd been a nice trip out in the 944 apart from the over heating with the roof out , windows down , ray bans on and sun in the sky 8) . I'll need to take a trip to halfords tomorrow (or should that be today ? just in from work at 4 am) to get some more fuses as i've toasted the other fan blower fuse whilst testing it . Will let you know how i get on .

The fan had seized - freed off by hand , fuses replaced and now works again . Probably not a long term fix but assuming to gain proper access I'd have to jack the car up and remove the splash guard I'll wait until I get my belts done in a couple of weeks to have it checked properly . Thanks for your help .
