Hi,

I'm going to get a Thatcham Category 1 alarm installed onto my car and the firm that' s going
to do it has recommended Cobra. Although I'm not sure which one yet I suspect it's going to
be a:

Cat 1 Modular Alarm 4138HF

http://www.cobravehiclesecurity.co.uk/p ... 138hf.aspx

or

Cat 1 Modular Alarm 4138

http://www.cobravehiclesecurity.co.uk/p ... -4138.aspx

Does anyone have any experience of these alarms or Cobra in general?

Thanks.

Hi :)

Cannot see a price there but they are a little short of features....

I have a the top of range Clifford ( http://www.clifford.co.uk/Products/Prod ... ductID=751 )with remote starting and anti hijack and a lot of other extras and it talks lol but its pricey at around £1000 fitted (with all extra bits i chose) ....but thats cheaper than losing my 928...

I think the problem with garages in particular in "recommending" makes of alarm system is that its their personal preference (or they fit them), or the only make fittted locally...im not sure thats the right way to choose an alarm...personally I would rather go on recommendation from someone who has a particular make or model...

Although mine sounds very expensive, the standard H&P 928 system was over £700 to be totally replaced on my brothers 928, and its a very basic system compared to my newer system...

All the best Brett :)

I've had Cobra alarms on three of my cars and found them to be very good and very reliable.

The 968 came with a Toad alarm and this has worked Ok too, although the installation left a bit to be desired and I have had to correct some of the wiring to improve its operation.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the feedback. I think my wife would leave me if I spent £1000 on a car alarm and whilst I like my car
I love my wife more, so I think I'll go with the Cobra.

All the best

P.S. I used to have a midnight blue 968. :D

Hi
have just had a cobra alarm fitted, I had one on my last car it had no problems and this cat1 seems to work fine.....most important thing is to get a good installer mine knew 944's very well and did a great job ...pictures shows all the parts removed to fit the alarm correctly, I had the tailgate on the remote aswell.
The ultrasonics come in ligth grey as standard but my guy sourced black items to match the interior.

Got a Cobra on my 911, no problems so far, i like the fact that the immobilisor actives after a short period of time but the alarm doesn't arm unless you activate it, so no false alarms when you open doors etc when you are cleaning it etc

Thanks for the feedback. I've booked the car in for next Thursday. I'm looking forward to having remote
central locking. No more using the key. :D

Hi :)

If it has a spare button on the remote...ask them to use it for remote hatch release (its only 1 wire for them to connect) ..it VERY useful...

All the best Brett :)

Very cool, I'll mention it when I drop it off.

Thanks Brett.

Hi Brett,

Well the alarm did have a spare button, but I forgot to mention it, however it went back a few days later and they wired the hatch release into the alarm, so no more keys.

They were kind enough point out that my central locking wasn't working properly and on further investigation I found that the small plastic bar that connects the key mechanism to the central locking on the driver's door had broken. It only cost £1.50 from Porsche and was easy to fit. It explains why the drivers door never opened when I unlocked the passenger door.

I now have a car with two alarms, the new Cobra one (alarm and immobiliser) and the existing Porsche one (just alarm). :D

Thanks for your advise.

Hi Kongsodoken,

Thanks for the advice on the ultrasonic. I mentioned it to the guy and he managed to find a black one from another alarm to fit.

It would have looked really stupid in grey.

I really appreciate the advice I received from everyone as it helped me identify things I'd never have thought to ask about.
