Thinking seriously about getting a 928 as a toy (just sold all my bikes as I'm a bit too crippled to carry on riding motorbikes) and seen on the net a 928 on a 'D' reg with a private plate for £5.5k with 65000 miles up, some history and looks nice. It's an auto (which I need) in white with red leather interior. It's in a dealers about 300 miles away so going and having a look see first is a bit of a no-no! Dealer says he'll service it and change the cambelt before delivery and deliver it in the price.

Does this seem like a good price for the car?

I'm not overly flush with cash after paying off the credit card so I don't want to pay over the odds if I can help it.

Thanks for the help.

Welcome!

There are much more knowledgeable and experienced 928 guys here but thought I would throw in my 2 cents worth.

It sounds good if the dealer is going to change the cambelt and that's a good idea. However can you be sure the dealer is experienced with 928 cam belts as they are complex and can be easily messed up? Or can you be sure he will actually do it?

What model is the D reg?

Hope you manage to join the 928 club! (I am only a half member as I have the engine for my off road race vehicle but not the whole car unfortunately. My dad used to own a GT model though).

First thing you should do is read this. Once you have read it all, please think about what you want. That red leather is lovely, but every day? Onto the car itself, that front passenger wheel looks badly kerbed. What is the bit of trim sitting on the passenger seat? The reg' number is not on the DVLA database? "the bodywork is superb with no rust or damage and interior is exceptionally good (rare for a 928!!)," ????? It is not rare ???? "65000 miles with some history" this might be an issue regarding ho much it has been used. If it has stood for long periods, it might need recommissioned. The guy says he will do the belt, but has the water pump been changed? I'm not saying don't buy the car, but the price is a bit high for an S2. Once you have a drive in a 928, there is no going back. You will want one, but drive a few and see how you feel. I'm not an expert on 928's, but I did finally find one I liked and still love. Check out the 928 UK site for one, see if there is a better one nearer you. If I was to buy another, I would buy from an enthusiast. :D

Had an early 928 about ten years ago, a manual in a sort of metallic chocolate brown with checkerboard on acid seats and loved it! Bought it cheap and ran it for ages until I blew it up and then sold it for what I paid for it! So I know I love them. Problem seems to be that there are very few down here in the wet and windy south west (devon) and the nearest one for sale that I can see is in Bristol which is about 100 miles away.

I've got cash and it's burning a big hole in my pocket...... never a good thing for me to have cash - I do stupid things!

Hi :)

I am in Bournemouth and will willingly look at one in my area ish if you need....

Umm that "some" history worries me a lot :( 65,000 i somehow doubt that.... some history is a bit like being a little bit pregnant...lol

And yes its too much money which is why the dealer will do the delivery etc...

All the best Brett :)

Thanks for the very kind offer, I may well take you up on that if I can just find a car......

I'll give the one in the frozen north a miss I think, too much money and too many questionmarks.

This one has been serviced by Paul Anderson just last month. Must be worth a phone call?

Sounds like its cambelt was last done in 2005 so worth checking the cost of a new one at a local garage or the cost of taking it to a specialist.

I'd be taking it back to Paul Anderson. Surely it hasn't been overlooked? Like I say, worth a phone call. If you were going to pay £5.5k for an S2 and all this one needs is it's belts?

928s have gone up in value over the last couple of years IMO, but 5.5k is still top money for an S2.

I'd budget 4-5 for the car and a grand on a cambelt/waterpump, possibly rmb or any other bits needed to make it perfect (ie bodywork or wheel refurbishing).

I am in Leicester, but work in the South West. If you want me to look at/test drive any in between Bristol/Bath and the Midlands I'd be more than happy to waste a salesmans time for you! haha!
