Well finally got my new set of wheels sorted out - for now anyway. After months of searching for a set of Cup 1 17" alloys with ET65 offsets I put that challenge on hold and went for 2nd best to change my 928 slots.

I have just bought some cup alloys from a 911 - twist style - with ET55 front and Et55 rear

Front set: 99636212400 7 J x 17 ET 55, Rear set: 99636212800 9J x 17 ET 55

I thought I was safe with the front offsets being ET55 and "just in", but then read on Phil Chadwick's article off Rennlist on 928 wheels and got a bit concerned that ET55 on the rear need a 35mm spacer? I was so caught up on trying to find the ultimate ET65 or 2nd best ET55 offsets for the front that I didn't think about spacers for the rear? I don't fancy fitting spacers unless I really have to?

Following on from this...the 7J fronts have 205/50/ZR17 Michelin Pilot Sport N rated tyres on them but on the 928 wheels article it states the 7J should take 225/50/17
Likewise the 9J rears have 255/40/ZR17's on them but with the ET55 offset this Article from Phil shows they may need for offsets?

Got my new wheels fitted last night. No fitting problems and no fouling problems anywhere that can be seen. I guess I could fit some spacers on the rear to move the tyres outwards if thats deemed to be an advantage, but guess only 5 or 7mm would be sensible going on what I can see. The fronts I will look to change to the wider 224/45/17 as recommended - shame as these are a new set of Michelin Sport tyres....guess I should put them on EBay. As for the Rear tyres, they are almost worn out, still legal but too close to the wear rib for my liking. Have just been offered a couple of Hankook's Ventus Sports which would fit & have 7mm tread so as good as new. Very tempted to fit these so I have a good set of grip on the rear - but has anyone tried these on the rear of a 928? Are they OK for normal fast road use?

Will be putting my 928 slots up for sale if anyone is interested on here?

Steve

I owned a 928 S4 until last year, now I have a Ferrari Mondial t.

There's a similar company called La Scuderia Rossa in Italy that buys rare Ferrari parts up and then re-sells them at really silly money.
The Mondial was about the same price as a 928 S4 in 1990 but is not as cheap to buy now, probably due to the name more than anything.
I needed an interior handle, air intake grille, and heater valve. These parts were £600 from Ferrari but they've got none left, La Scuderia Rossa's price was £2500.
I suppose it's OK if you are rich, but I'm not.

a spacer adds offset, offset is measured in millimeters so a 35 mm spacer would give a et55 wheel the equivalent of et90 total offset (55+35).

to put a et55 wheel in the same position as a et65 relative to the hub you will need a 10mm spacer (55+10).

dont know the native offset of a 928 but your original wheels should tell you.

As for spacers and offsets - it works the other way round......if you add a 10mm spacer to a Et55 then you will end up with an ET of 45! To add offset you have to take metal away from your wheel.

There isn't enough room for a 35mm spacer on the rear. The spacers on the rear were only ever used to give free room and avoid rubbing.

Hi
No problems, I've done that too. Had to go back onto 928.org's site to check myself. This diagram is worth a look to help explain;

Cheers
