if you are doing the whole car it is quicker and cheaper than a paint job, but still not that cheap.

doing a whole car is a job for proffesional fitters, if you do not know what you are doing you will cock it up within a few minutes .

Full wrap starts at £1000+ with a lifespan of 4-5 years before it starts to wreck the paint and or UV damage starts to break it down and it needs removing. Can be washed and waxed the same as normal paint. Any corrosion will bubble up the finish so it needs to be on good solid body panels and not used to hide a multitude of sins

Hi :)

I asked a company about a wrap on mine and as soon as I mentioned the word Porsche the price went up from £1400 to over £3000 :(

Also they said that the paintwork had to be very good or they wouldnt do it without respraying first (which sort of defeats the object) so no blisters or rough paint like on mine :(

I quite fancied a "Chrome" ..mirror wrap....

All the best Brett :)

Hi Brett, I see you're in Bournemouth - my home town :D

We're moving back to Dorset in two weeks (Blandford) from Cheshire.

I browsed quite a few sites last night, but no labour prices were revealed. That's a shame because I really fancy wrapping my car in either a gunmetal matt or something a bit mad. :bounce:

Cheers dude. Now knowing it would cost around 3k, I probably won't go ahead with anything just yet :(

Hi :)

Be nice to see you when you move down....pop into my Computer shop any time for a cuppa :) Pchealthcare Computers BH9 2BA

You "may" get it cheaper than 3k as that was for a chrome/mirror wrap....

The thing that got me was I fancied a wrap as my paintwork is not good and if I wanted to spend over 3k I could have a respray.... so I "thought" a wrap was the cheap alternative....wrong lol...

Having said that I think the wrapping companies want the best of both worlds....they will happily wrap a new car because it makes their wrap look good, but dont want anything to do with older cars.....I even told them I would be happy for them to take a DA to my rough areas to smooth them out for the wrap, but they were not interested :(

All the best Brett :)

I've been looking at this option for some time, not to change the colour but to protect the paint, being black the stone chips show up and I am fed up touching them up....Cheapest cost I found was £900 :(

I them started looking at the cost of the vinyl you can buy enough wrapping vinyl to do a 944 1.5 times (allowing for mess ups) for £200 :D I am going to have ago on the front bumper first in gloss black just to see how hard it is!

I have purchased black carbon fibre cloth (not Vinyl) I am currently wrapping the whole dash and tops of the door cards, this stuff is great it is matt, impossible to rip or cut and it looks fantastic and feels soft to the touch, it is quite easy to do once you have scrapped the first try!

why not buy a small qty of vinyl and try it?

The beauty of a fairly new car is the smoother and larger panels, especially the bumpers. This makes it easier to apply versus an older car in some cases.

I briefly looked at wrapping my wifes Smart car. It was cheaper and long term more cost effective to get a high quality respray. Car looks like new again.

Peter Simpson wrapped his 944S2 in issue 200 of 911 and Porsche World, its now for sale and looking a little sorry for itself http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/2405932.htm, wrapped by www.carbonwrapz.co.uk, says from £900 in the mag feature

These cars do take good photo's, even the roughest car can look good. I think the fact it is rim deep in a field makes it look bad, but wrap doesn't look a complete write off. Like you say it's " looking a little sorry for itself ".

Hey Brett, yeah that will be cool - nice one :D My parents are BH9, so I'm guessing you're on the main Wimborne Road - Winton or Moordown.

My paintwork isn't too bad, although the cills are just starting to bubble a bit. I really want to do something with mine. Piccies attached below :D

Cor... 200 squid sounds like a deal. I was looking at http://www.mdpsupplies.co.uk/signvinyl1220matt.asp last night and their 'supply' prices are pretty good. Yes, I shall definitely try it. I guess it will be a bit tricky when you're dealing with more than one curvature at the same time - bit like tinting the rear screen of a 944 :?

All the best Brett :)

The chrome looks mad :bounce: not so sure I'd want to be driving anything lowish in chrome though I suffer badly enough with people just pulling out in front of me as it is :x

Have you already lowered your 944 and if so, how low? I'm thinking of lowering mine by 30/50mm :bounce:
