What are these wheels?

Hi,
I plan to change the wheels on my 928. Would anyone know the name of the wheels that are on it now. I am not sure if they are original Porsche wheels or not.

Here are the wheel styles I like. Pictures were borrowed from another thread, hope owners don't mind.

Could anyone tell me what these wheels are called if they will fit a 928.

Hi :)

Wheels for a 928 are ALL about offset....

As far as "genuine" Porsche wheels or not....genuine Porsche wheels ALWAYS have the size and offset stamped either side of the valve on the outside of the wheel where you can see it, copies usually have the offset hidden on the back of the wheel, if at all...

So as an example...standard 928 slots (sometimes called Manhole covers) have 7J one side of the valve and 65 the other side (65 being the standard offset for a 928)

I run 996 18 inch wheels on mine and mine say 10J one side and 52 other... so you need to KNOW the offset of any wheels you are considering and we can then say IF they will or will not fit...

Hi Brett,
Thanks for the reply. Didn't realise getting new wheels is so complicated lol.

Saw these 911 turbo wheels for sale on another forum, whats opinion on these?

Have not asked size or offsets yet, still trying to decide on them

Hi :)

Personally I love those wheels, but it REALLY is all about offset...you NEED to know before you even consider buying them....

Plus I suspect those tyres are "stretched" (that means undersized) like a lot of youngsters do these days...which means you need to know the tyre sizes as well as wheel sizes and offsets..... OR you will end up buying new rubber all around as well :)

Not 100% but I think they may be Cayenne wheels

If you want the most comprehensive guide to 928 wheel fitment, go to http://www.landsharkoz.com/tt/ttwheels.htm and download the pdf "New Wheels for your 928", if that's too much detail then the general recommendation is not to have an offset of less than 55 on the front.

Read through that wheel guide. Very comprehensive, loads of information in it.

I just checked the wheels on mine.

Front are 55/9 with 205/50 ZR 17 tyres.

Back are 55/9 with 225/40 ZR 17 tyres.

The size and offset were stamped on either side of the valve, on the outside of the wheels.

They rub when turning on full lock....guessing car has been lowered too much?

Hi Gary

As has been said already the wheels you like are Cup2 Alloys and are typical on some 996, 911 Porsche's. They typically have an offset or 52 or 15 or even 23 at the front. As Brett has already mentioned the 928 is very picky about its offsets.


ET = Einpress Tieffe = Offset Distance

The 968 has similar offsets to a 928, I am currently looking to change my standard slot wheels for a set of Cup 1 17" alloys - once I can find some!!!

You will learn a lot about "scrub Radius" and other stuff.

Your fronts should be 7.5J and your rears should be 9J. From what you have posted your fronts are 9J which are 9" wide on 55 offset - I think you should be catching your inner wing when you put your car on full lock & scrubbing the inner wing body.

Anything over a 55 offset is deemed to be OK as some 928 wheels cam out of the factory with ET55 but most have ET65.

The offsets are a little low but just about usable on a 928, but as I guessed the tyres are undersized :(

You will need bigger tyres all round for safety...

The 9 inch fronts may need the arches rolling on the front as well....but not on the back...

To be honest, unless they are VERY cheap and considering around £400 to £600 for new rubber.... I would probably avoid them...

Yea am definately catching my wheel on the inner wing body when on full lock.

I knew the wheels didn't look right and just don't feel right when driving.

Plus not overly keen on the look either.

Have a better idea of what I need to look for now.

Just saw these on Gumtree.... Advert a bit old, so probably gone.

But for arguement sake... would these be more like the size I would need for my car?

7 x 55 front and 9 x 55 rear?

Guys/Girls would these fit on my car ok?

Have done a lot of reading on offsets and it seems 55 is smallest you can go for on fronts but there doesn't seem to be any lower limit stated for rears.

Could you go to a 50 on the rear? Does moving from a 9J (standard) to a 8.5J allow the extra 5m.
