Hi,

Had to have a new battery on my 968 yesterday as the old one had let go after 8 weeks of being cooped up in my Mum's garage and not doing anything (long story). The boot lock on a 968 is electronic - if the battery had been totally dead how would I have released the boot lock in order to jump start the car and change the battery?

TIA.

Assuming it's the same as the 944S2. Put the back seats down, crawl in, pull the carpet trim down, and squeeze or turn the lock manually - you'll work it out when you're there. If you can't manage that move the rods towards each other manually.

Why didn't I think of that???? I suppose I could also use long jump leads through the car door, lifting up the floor trim etc in the boot in order to get it running and thus be able to open the boot nornally.

Many thanks.

What John said basically.
There is a piece of wire swaged onto the boot lock lever bits, with a loop in it that you pull.
Having done it once or twice it helps to be a contortionist

There is a point under the bonnet near the wiper motor where you can attach a live supply to give you enough power to open the boot, however this must not be used to start the car as the wiring is not meant for this purpose.
As has already been suggested, if you crawl through into the boot and undo the press studs to release the carpet on the right hand side of the rear panel you should find a wire loop which is the emergency boot release.
