Thats the Lindsey Racing fuel rail kit. Used to buy a lot of parts from the states as they were cheaper than getting them here. Needed a new fuel rail & they were £650 from Porsche. £300 from Lindsey back them including the pressure reg & damper & pressure gauge. Have to say it sounds different once fitted & is a lot smoother. Modern design. Porsche got the damper wrong but Fuel Injection was in it's infancy back then.

Ahh right nice one. Gonna get it done in april, did you do it yourself or garage? A mechanic friend said he'd help me with it as I am a complete novice but not sure if its too soon to tackle. Have you had any interest yet?

Not such good value now with the exchange rate. It is pretty simple to fit but I wouldn't recommend you go this route unless you want to spend 3 times the value of the car!

Wasted Hippy. If you want a look/drive pop over to Yorkshire. Experience a fit lux. I doubt it's going anywhere until Easter & I actually don't need to get rid of it until September. But given how long they can take to sell I probably shouldn't keep it that long! Though it is taxed & tested & it's rather tempting to finish the job before Spring & then get some fun out of it.

Totally off topic but I've seen your car around! Mines a gold 944 which I use everyday, you may have seen it as I used to live in Ripley!!

I went to see two 944s today one of which being J.J.s car. In the end I decided to go with the other car I saw, after a lot of thought, purely because it was a little closer to the spec I would have picked were it possible to order a brand new 944. Anyway, more about that in another thread.

First of all it was nice meeting you today, J.J.!

Overall I was very impressed with the car, it was one of the two best 944s I have driven and I've driven plenty, all 2.5 8V's. The other car which is one of the two best, is the other car I went to look at today! J.J.s car did had a little more "go" though.

Bodily I was impressed with the car, it is structually sound, unlike a lot of 944s. The only bits I could really fault the car on is there was a very small bit of bubbling on the edge of the front wings - really nothing major at all though and the drivers seat bolster lets the otherwise excellent interior down. Overall the paint work was very nice, with just a couple of stone chips that I noticed. As with all classic cars there is always something to do, I don't think anyone can deny that.

After seeing the car I believe the car is indeed one of the few better 2.5 8Vs around for sale on the market today. Considering the money which has been spent on the mechanicals and the fact that the body is in sound, overall excellent condition I would recommend anyone interested in a good 2.5 8V car should at least go and see this example.

Had the car in the workshop today & was able to take a close look. The Rust you refer to is in fact under seal. Both front wings have been repaired at the bottom & were undersealed prior to painting so the inside edge is rough. The drivers bolster is fair comment. As are the stone chips. There are a few. Bolster could do with a proper repair. The car is having the new mirrors fitted today along with Xenon upgraded bulbs for the lights. The scraping noise from the rear is rust inside one the handbrake drums as the car has been standing. I need to drive it more. Found the receipt for the head. £700 + the cost of the head & cambox to start with. (+200)
Maybe I should stick a Hydrogen cell in it & keep it. The first Hydrogen powered 944 running on water.

J.J. - check the trailing edge of the front wheel arches. Catch it now before it spoils the car

Come & look again in daylight! In a well lite garage over the pit with a powerful inspection lamp the roughness you saw is under seal. If it was rust I would have it stripped & painted but theres no rust there to paint!

As an aside, just been on ebay looking for bits and pieces. I came across these and thought of you.

If you've never driven a '44 without these on you'd be surprised what a difference they make! My other half said he thought the only thing letting the car down from an aesthetic point of view was the mesh held on by cable ties in the fog lamp apatures.
In my opinion visable cable ties on what is obviously a fundimentally sound, quality car that has had this much spent on it lets it down a little bit, when it is only a few pounds expense to have an original front end. More in keeping with the standard of work under the bonnet. All in my opinion of course!

Yes & thanks for the post Pixie. But the under seal on the leading edge of the wings was put there to stop them chipping. It was sprayed on so is pretty rough. Seems to work looking at them. Just a couple of chips at the bottom. Just got the car back from the workshop with the bumper straightened out. New blind spot mirrors fitted. There great every 944 should have them. Also the Xenon lamp bulbs make a huge difference. Only one job left to fix. The Instrument lighting. Will have to get the multimeter out for that. Really it's never been this good. It's just needs a good clean & vac out. Ideally a pair of fogs would look nice I have to agree. Can I really sell it now it's almost sorted???? Four & a half years of work & it comes to this....... But then if I keep it I will probably just keep on spending on it. The quest for power.............

What do you mean by "....can be used every day so long as you don't ask it to do short journeys"...

944's don't like short journeys. Especially in winter. It takes 15 minutes to warm up & if that gets you were your going, then the battery won't have had time to recharge. The fuel economy will be awful as it will be running enriched for most of the journey. Just doesn't work! I tried using mine to do a 7 mile trip to work for a week. I was always the last to leave the car park coming home as if took so long to defrost compared to modern cars. By the end of the week the battery was flat! (Lights on, heater on, wipers on.) It got through £25 worth of Super. Switched to the train for the short commute.

Just bought mine when the cold snap hit at the end of last year . Car is parked outside so I was taking it for a short spin every day thinking it would be better than leaving it standing for days at a time under a pile of snow . I soon knocked this on the head when i discovered it was returning little more than 5 mpg ! At that rate it would be cheaper to leave it unused over the winter & pay for an annual engine rebuild . As it is , it starts first time after being left for a week in sub zero temperatures and looks like its doing a more respectable 30 + mpg on longer journeys .

My S2 is warmed up enough to defrost the windows in less than a minute or so and the temperature gauge is off the mark after about 5 minutes then settles at the normal running point. I cant say I have noticed a massive drop in fuel economy from short urban runs to long urban runs averages around 25-26mpg.
