Hi There,
I am looking to sort out my break down cover and was after some views on what’s good and what’s not.
I am looking for cover for two cars at the same address but covering two drivers, road side repair, recovery to my choice of garage “not the nearest within 15 miles” and a car while it’s in for repair.
Looked at the AA, £133, RAC £125, do we get discount from these? Are there any better ones out there?
Cheers

Have you considered Green Flag? They have taken my car to where I wanted it taken to because "It's a Porsche and he looks after it". They do it without question.

Try telephoning your insurance company and getting it added on as an extra (it's usually Green Flag the all use) - probably the best and cheapest way to do it - so long as you beat them down on price... if you don't ask you don't get.

I've been with the Caravan Club Green Flag MAYDAY scheme for the last 22 years - really good cover & service!
Just renewed PREMIUM UK & Personal Cover for £117 (the "Full Monty") it covers Me in any car I am in (so good for the 3 I have!) and my wife, or partner, in any car she is in (probably not at the same time??.
Secondary recovery when Towing the Van eg a recent holiday incident left us stranded on a Sunday on the A66, Blown Water hose & total loss of coolant. Got the Disco on the low loader with the van in tow, dropped the van off where we store it, then dropped us at home (Lincoln), 120 + 15 mls. The following day a local recover vehicle took the Disco to a local specialist 9mls away - all part of the service, excellent - saved ££ on fuel as well!
It also cover me for a Chauffeur if I am taken ill as I am the only drive in our family.
I would really recommend it, but not sure if you need to be in the CC (Tel 0800 400 654)
I have had 4 breakdowns in 3 different cars in the last 10 years 2 of them on a Sunday involved a secondary recovery (none in a Porsche thank goodness!).
Its well worth the money as someone I know said his mate had to get a 50+ mile tow home - cost £250 + an extra £50 to take the vehicle to a repairer .

How far did they take you John?
I live in Lincoln & have my 944 Turbo Serviced at JM Garage Christchurch & ofter wonder if they would really take me there! (I guess I would still have to get home or stay till its fixed!) hopefully it wont happen!
BTW my Porsche insurance does include breakdown cover (not an option to delete it) but I would probably call Green Flag anyway.

Get a Lloyds gold or platinum account & you get AA cover thrown in. It's about £5/8 a month & includes worldwide travel insurance. Mobile phone insurance & some other goodies. They assume your driving a modern car & don't load the premium for driving an old Porsche like the AA do!

Green Flag once took the car to the garage about 30 miles away - which I thought was very reasonable of them.

After trying for over an hour and ripping the dash to bits the AA once couldn't fix the immobiliser fault - it has stuck on outside a bar in Knutsford, on double yellows, which drew comments like "should have bought a Ford mate"... even though I didn't know him - why do people insist on calling you 'mate'? They brought me the five miles home. I fixed it myself in the morning - all it was was cracked circuit track on the little key thing. Fixed it with solder.

The RAC just used to try and put the price up every year - so I ditched them years ago.

I've got Green Flag free with my RBS royalties gold account. I've never used though, damn cars have always cut out going over the speed bump outside my house. I figure that if I get over the speed bump, then I'll get to where I'm going.

Edited to correct the spelling mistakes made on my iPhone.

Mine's a bit more, but it's a joint account (does that make a difference?).

Barclays at £16/month, RAC cover (including home start), unlimited worldwide travel insurance, credit cards, mobile phones, will-writing, legal advice helpline and domestic emergency cover.

I saw my bank's boss in front of the MPs:

MP: "Are you going to take your bonus this year?"
CEO: "That's a decision I will take wth my family"

Me? My family decisions are based around what we can afford too, it's just that mine have a few less zeros on the end!
