I'm about to embark on the rebuild of my 944T's engine. The engine is from a 220BHP car and will have a rebuilt K26/6 turbocharger (probably), lightly modified cylinder head, adjustable cam gear, maybe 3" downpipe with 3" front section, 2.5" rear section, stage 1 intercooler, late 944 NA cam and LR wastegate. Injection system will hopefully be my new modified motronic based system although probably standard with promax lvl2 chip to begin with. You can't beat the experience of those that have done it before so I'm going to post what I think I need and hopefully people can spot anything I've missed.

Widefire headgasket set
Short block gasket set
front engine seal kit
intake and exhaust gaskets
belts
Clutch Kit
Clutch release fork
9 Flywheel Bolts
9 Pressure Plate Bolts
T/O Bearing Guide Sleeve
Rear Main Crankshaft Seal
Clutch Fork Bearings
Pilot Bearing
Alignment tool
Clutch Fork Shaft
Engine Oil Thermostat and Seals
Air Oil separator o-rings
Turbo thermostat?
Thermostat
Connecting rod bearing set
Main bearing set
balance shaft bushings and bearings
Piston pin clips
Piston rings
engine block freeze plugs
oil pressure relief valve seals
connecting rod nuts
Loctite 574
Liquid Moly Assembly Lube

Any input appreciated! Including things to watch out for, top tips, cheapest places to buy etc etc!

Any tips on rebuilding a TT? Think the bearings are gone in mine....

Tom

Would be worth putting this on your watch list then.............

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/PORSCHE-944-TURBO ... 20b5bb2b90

Worth fitting a new waterpump? Having the injectors cleaned?

I have considered rebuilding my engine too but never got around to it, as I decided it wasn't actually that bad, just needs a sump gasket. So I'm not talking from experiance. I thought about putting a baffle in the sump and matching the manifolds and head.

Can't see why you'd use a 3" front pipe and a 2.5" exhaust, would it not be better to use 3" pipe all the way through?

I'd also take advise on the turbo, if you are going to rebuild one it may as well be a 26/8.

According to Hayward and Scott the exhaust gases will cool and reduce in volume as they exit the exhaust, by having the rear section 2.5" the gas flow stays up and helps clear the exhaust. This is apparently best up to around 400hp.

The reason I am thinking of keeping the K26/6 is because I like the torque curve. The car is really pulling by 3000rpm and if anything I want to improve on this. What I don't really want to do is just shift the torque curve up the rev range.

The head is being matched to the manifold and having some minor port work done.

The Late N/A cam, marked 9R, has 1mm more lift and some more duration on the exhaust cam. I have one lying about in the garage so though I may as well give it a go!

Hello
I am no turbo expert but I did research turbos and exhaust sizes a little bit when selecting my turbo upgrade, I do however understand gas turbines a bit.
Before you decide on your exhaust please check this out.

That's pretty much what I've been told in the past. A turbo works best with the least amount of back pressure you can get. So according to that article anything over 250bhp is best with a 3" exhaust.

Having driven a 220bhp and having a 250bhp I've got to say that I didn't really notice the difference in revs when the turbo comes on boost. The characteristics of a 26/8 doesn't seem that different from a 26/6 except that the torque doesn't seem to drop off as much higher up the revs. It's personal choice but I would have thought that if you're going to shell out for a turbo rebuild then rebuilding a turbo that will see you though any other upgrades you may do in the future would be better.

i totally agree, I have 380bhp in a 2.3 turbo and a 3 inch all the way through makes all the difference.

Thats nice power from your 2.3! What RPM does it start boosting?
