I have 1988S with a turbo front end. So the s2 box will fit, not sure if the mounting points are there or not. When changing the air filter on my S I couldn't removed the flat head bolts, had 2 use a drill with a flat head bit. This freed all off The six but one. The lower rigth conner had 2 be cut free. ( end that afm conncets 2 )Iv tryed 2 gule the box back down in that conner hoping it would be air tight. I'm not conferdent it is.

So this would been I could be losing cold air and contaming the cold drawn air with heat from the engine.

Iv tryed a cone filter and found the stock airbox produced more useable power over the cone, going back 2 stock felt like an upgrade.

Also iv can feel a lost off air around the join between the box and the afm.

I'm looking 4 a new air box and the rubber join between air box and afm, which seems 2 be about 102ish mm. I can't find any  stright silcone  cuplins this large. But I have found some that are reducers. So I could cut the larger size and u this or use a reducer 2 then pipe up the s2 box

Location of box
The s2 means once a year/filtter change u need 2 remove the badge panel, plus it air should be free from the heat off the engine.

but removing the s box would create move room 4 other mattaternace around that area.

Can anyone provide me' with the hose/ plumping size 4 an s2 box

Just measured my airbox. The internal diameter of the hose should be 68mm.
I'm running a cone filter under the badge panel. It's away from the heat of the engine. I think it works well, worth a try.

A cone filter maybe a cheaper fix then an air box and filter. How have you fitted the filter from rattaling and moving about? Which brand did you use?

Thanks 4 the measurement.

If you could give us a price on that as well please, do u have the rubber join as well?

Thanks all

It's a ram air foam and rubber one, so it doesn't rattle that I know of. It fits quite well. I've just got it on the end of the standard hose with an adaptor. It sits just at the right angle. Also the input as it were of the filter is off centre.

Have checked there's no water working it way in when it rains? Mines but daily drive so I can't shelter from the rain. Noticed the snucal 4 the S picks up cold air from under the badge pannel, so I'm guessing it would currently be facing the same problem now if one did exist.

On the same note, s2 box opening is on the left so the air/rain is not directed at it head on. But iv read that on 968 a well know mod is 2 create large holes in the front off the box 2 create a ram air effect.

Also the S box is a lot deeper then the fillter it self, don't no if this would back air up helping the need as the revs increased?

Is there a rubber closer fitted around the pipe work from the back off the badge pannel? There is on my S not sure how my heat it would block out, once the cars in motion.

not that i know of, the cold air feed faces downwards as i can remember, i cant really see water getting up there, its probably more sheltered than being in the engine bay.
where the hose goes into the front panel there is a foam seal/stopper which holds it in place. its about an inch thick i think.
mines a daily drive too, i've done about 10,000 miles since doing it, i haven't had a problem, its probably time to clean it though!
i does help having the standard hose on there, it sets it off at the right angle.
I found when i changed it the throttle was more responsive and of course a better noise! which in itself is worth it, but i did go from a standard paper filter so i probably would feel the difference.

Which filter brand did you buy! Is there a regulation on size. E.g the the larger diameter off the cone. What did you mean by yours faces down? Have you go pipe work then cone then pipe work?

Thanks

the brand is Ramair. i'm not sure on the size of it it was just one i had laying around in the garage. i had it on my turbo astra at one point. its a full size input, 3". i used a reducer then straight on to the standard hose.
the cold air feed is the one thats inbuilt to the bumper. i didn't put one in but i suppose you could.
