Porsche 944S/S2 Chain/Tensioner "Repair Kit" - sorry, can anyone clarify what is actually in this kit? Is it a new chain and top slipper pad? (approx £30 in total).

I would image so. Could include the small metal hose as well? How much is it?

£30. I'm just weighing up to go down this route rather than paying £70 for top & bottom slipper if it's really just the top slipper than causes the concern anyway. However, it's not clear what's in the "kit". Will need to phone to clarify.

They both age, turn in colour, White, -yellow -orange -brown. Brown is bad! I didn't think you could get the bottom seprately. Just had my chain and top sliper changed. MIT won't 2 bugget from some new cam cover bolts as these seem 2 be snapping lately. There 8-16 pounds each!? If the lower sliper is available then the tensoner needs removing 2 change, as it's screwed in. But with the top one been 7 pounds can't see the bottom been 40 as there the same thing slightly different shape.

I have just done this job and replaced both top and bottom pad (slipper) I dont think you can get the bottom from UK so i got a kit from the US.It consists of just the two pads and screws for the bottom pad. The job is quite easy and although mine were brown they looked in good condition. The chain was good as i've only 65000 miles on the clock. I can update with with pics and details of where to get it from when i get home tonight.

Please do post some photos.

I had my chain slippers inspected at our local Porsche specialist here in Norwich a couple of months ago - first thing I got done after taking on my 944S in June.

The chain slipper (service history shows was replaced 70K miles ago) got a clear report "no faults found", however, with hindsight for the sake of £70 parts and an hour's labour (he charged me 45mins labour anyway for the inspection) I wish I'd had the slippers replaced - as I'm guessing after 70K miles my chain slippers may have deteriorated slightly with age (i.e. more brittle than they were when new) even if they looked perfectly intact with little signs of scoring.

Like with everything some things will wear quicker 4 some then others, at 650000 I had a new tensoner and chain instoled. Couldn't get the slippers then, 550000 miles later the chain had streched and was hitting the top off the cam cover. There was ment 2 off ben a new chain instooled b4 I got it and there was no noise, till recent, I replaced the tensoner as my mercanic thought it was fluatly. The tensouner I put on was 2nd hand with no were 2 the bottom pad but it was orange in coulor. There changing in coulor is the pad getting brittal, and can snap/ brack up.

Wishing I changed the bottom sliper as well now, was told by berlyin they weren't available ;(

Check out this site:

http://www.944online.com/cgi-bin/forum/ ... 1209471555

It has all the info you need to do the job yourself and save money, it took me about 2 hours and i replaced the gasket and spark plug seals at the same time and also powder coated the cam cover.
