I'm new to the forum but often rely on Pistonheads for advise/help/support but I like the idea of a specific model "chat zone". I sold my S2 almost exactly 2 years ago due to issues with parking/lack of use. However, a recent house moves means I have masses of space. So, what did I do? I bought my old car back again at the weekend!

Car is going in for a service next month and I also plan to change;

Belts & rollers (kit from Promax Motorsport) at £209.
Slipper pad kit (Promax again) at circa £70.

I'll get the cam sprockets, tensioner and chain inspected too (chain was changed 5 yrs ago/36k ago - I may leave it alone therefore).

I suspect (as I don't know when it was last changed but more than 50k ago anyway) that I should also dig deep and replace the waterpump. I'd kick myself if it packed in 2 months down the line. I'm struggling to get one for less than £300 however. I've looked at Promax, Porscheshop, Berlyn. Can anyone recommend a decent and perhaps cheaper supplier without compromising quality? There are some major "cheapies" advertised on ebay from USA but I'd simply be too worried about quality.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Simkin,

I too bought my old car back but it was after eight years and in that time not much happened to it, so I'd recommend
you get it thoroughly checked out to see what problems are lurking under the bonnet. When it comes to cam belts,
tensioners, etc. I believe the recommendation from someone else on this forum was to replace them after five years.

Design911 has had a fair number of recommendations from people and their website does have a specific category relating
to service parts which may make it better to identify the bits you need.

Regards,

RD

If I'm not sure then I phone Bert @ Berlyn services.

Also John Mitchell has helped me too, on price and delivery.

But I've only bought 928 parts in the last 6 months.

The chain can be done indepentally from the belts, and may help
Finalcaly 2 brake up the cost. Other wise the next belt change ur be doing it all again.

The chain is only about 20. But u MIT as well change the sliper pad as well so ur looking at 30 ish 4 it all.

But once it's all done u should have 30-40000 miles depending on when u next want 2 change ur belts.

Porsche 944S/S2 Chain/Tensioner Repair Kit - sorry, can anyone clarify what is actually in this kit? Is it a new chain and top slipper pad? (approx £30).

Water pumps are about that sort of money I'm afraid.

Eurocarparts sometimes have good deals.

People often seem to find that the extra tension of new belts causes old waterpumps to give up the ghost just after the engine has been apart. So then you start all over again. Its a risk you take - if you aren't sure how old the wp is then you would probably be saving some time and money by doing both in the first place.
Probably....

These two the best by far. Free advice & no problems changing parts if there the wrong ones. When cars get 20+ years old anything can happen & the parts you need aren't always the parts you should need!
