Stripped the carpets out of the mine (grubby beige !! & to investigate the dreaded water leaks !!)

Does anyone know if there :-

1). Are they still available form OPC ? there is a sticker on the lh front section pt no :-

945 555 055 01/2FB..last letter might be an R as not clear.

2 686 16 057

2).Had a word with my trimmer guy ,, as they are moulded type they are difficult to make new from scratch...(he said not impossible but a fair job to get all the shapes correct and not end up with to much bulk, so it looks right etc.).

Tried to bring them up with a good quality carpet shampoo, but not a great result due to 20yrs of wear and water ingress + someone had seat ext plates fitted and they have corroded a little and squashed the pile to zero !!! with a rust print .nice

Anybody had similar experiences

Hi Derrick,

Sounds like your carpets are the same colour as mine - hell grau = light grey or in reality off white.
Mine have a stain around the floor mat on the passenger side where the dye has leached out of a previous mat and left a blue outline on the carpet, I would imagine that if they are still available from the dealers they will be unfeasibly expensive. I did someone breaking a 968 a while back with light grey carpets but they wanted about £150 just for the front section and I didn't fancy paying that much, especially without seeing it.

Only sensible price set I have found is in the States here:http://www.aaaautocarpet.com/colors.php At £130 it's not expensive. But you will need to double that for shipping as carpet is heavy. +VAT+Duty. £325 Approx. Shame the shipping is so great. But when you consider what you have to pay for good mats maybe it's not so bad. Seller uses ebay so you can buy that way for extra security. Seriously considering this option myself.

Are there any holes where there should'nt be?

If not won't it clean up with some sugar soap and a good scrub or even a steam clean?

Good tip Sean... gonna give it go, never used a stem cleaner on a carpet but we have one at work so will have a go Mon.

No, my carpet is almost white as are my seats. My interior colour is called "light grey" which is why I thought it must be like yours when you posted the colour off the back of your carpets.
Unless its the photo, your carpets are a lot darker than mine. You can see a bit of my colour, behind the blue mat, on the photo I sent you of the smaller cover in situ on my drivers seat.

If you use a steamer make sure you have something thick to use as a blotter to lift the dirt you've seperated from the pile.

When i say steam cleaner i mean a big pressure washer ..outside one !!( truck and car washer ).... i assume you mean the car valeter "steam vac " that they use on seats etc....

I don't have access to one them... what do you think to turning the reg down to reduce the high press to a minimum and gently trying it on a section (using a carpet shampoo mix to act as a detergent)??? or does it sound like a bit of a no no.

I think you'd be better off with a foam carpet cleaner and a firm brush if you haven't got access to a steamer.

Vanish do one in a tall pink can, we use that in the house and it lifts most stains.

Spray it on let it soak in a bit then aggitate it, then vaccum when dry. You may need a couple of goes for the tough stains.

Kneel on a pillow while your scrubbing to save your knees.

You can buy small hand held steam cleaners from the major DIY chains for around £25

Had a go at the pass/carpet today (sprayed it with G101 carpet/soft fabric detergent) and left it to soak for a couple of hrs...then used a soft brush to break up some of the tough stains washed throughly with warm water.....looks a lot better.....left it dry overnight .will post some pics later in the wek..cheers for the tips

Think I might try that on mine. Creams a silly colour for a carpet. After 20+years it's amazing it looks as good as it does!
