If it is genuinely corrosion-free and has been properly dry stored and properly recommissioned, the cost of reproducing that quality of car by restoring a tired one would be vastly higher.

But if you can buy a reasonable one and spend a little getting it right. That is less than 8K.

It sound as if it will need the belts & pump doing, not to mention the age of the tyres....

Of course it will need belts and tyres and so on, and should have had them: that's what I mean by "properly recommissioned". And of course it is possible to buy a car that has been in use for 30 years and do it up. But you can't make it as fresh as this one is (providing it's actually as described and as it looks) for £7,995.

If that were a Capri 3.0 no-one would turn a hair at it being advertised for £15,000. Why is it that so many people seem to feel that Porsches should be worth so little as not to be worth restoring?

It's a catch 22 scene regards the prices. We all wish they were valued higher, but then a lot of us may not be able to buy one.

So, why is the demand so low?

It's not petrol prices because peeps are happy using 4 x 4's.

Insurance costs perhaps?

Basically I think it's pre-conceived that they are expensive to run or repair. Okay parts may be expensive, but labour costs are about the same rate per hour. My local Ford place charge 80 + vat per hour. Just that some jobs on Porsche take about 3 times as long like clutch & cam etc... This is what I think keeps the prices down. Boxsters can also be picked up relativley cheap as well. Also, sports cars are renown for needing service more often... I think people haven't clicked on to the fact they can buy one and just run it at weekends. Loads of folks driving about in old cars now anyway....

"Never to be repeated" I can repeat it with cherries on, my 86 Turbo in Kalahari Beige which is the same colour not bronze is as clean and honest as that, ok maybe a few more miles but as we know miles are "good" with our cars.
Hope he gets good money for it as our cars deserves it, i note 220 turbos seem to be appreciating in value and so they should.
Lovely car mind you bar the aftermarket glass sunroof which completely ruins the originality for me.
Offered 6k today for my Turbo S against a 993 which was a lovely car, the only plus against the 944 was the looks and sound and awesome brakes, 14k to swap.

NAH...................... I will keep the 944.

A good mate of mine who came with me today has a 964 Anniversary, with 27k on the clock, wide body in Viola metallic it is stunning, he managed to keep hold of his 944 turbo when buying the 911 recently and stated he was pleased that he did as it is smoother, quicker, and far more practical than the 964.

Though the noise and looks of the 964 are second to none.
