Hi,

Does anyone know if there are speakers behind the rear speaker grills in the 968? Whenever I've spoken to my
local audio shop about them they've always told me that there are none there and putting speakers in would involve
removing a lot of the interior panels and windows, which seemed odd to me.

When I removed the air ducts that sits in the pillar behind the door I could see two wires dangling down
on the drivers side, but nothing on the passenger side, so I'm interested to know if anyone else has
ever looked into this.

Thanks.

As far as I know they all have speakers in the rear except the Sport and Club Sport.

Thanks for the feedback. Does anyone know where the cables run? I'd like to avoid taking all the panels off if I can help if I can help it.

On my 944 the cables run under the carpet and go into the body through a small rubber grommet. I recently changed the rear speakers in mine and removed the windows in order to make the panel much easier to remove but it's a pig to get the windows back in with the metal trim. Not sure how different the 968 panels are to mine though.

Wires, run under the carpet clip. And the under the the rear pannel.

968 rear quarter windows are a different shape and are flat bonded like newer cars

If I remove my speakers would that give acesse 2 the rear quater? Got some dents I would like 2 get out, iv tryed going though the side vents but you can't get the leverage.

I've got rear speakers in my 968 Sport. Not 100% sure that they're original, but probably are, as it had the original tape deck in it when I bought it.

There's some info over on the 968uk forum about options for replacing them - what fits, and how to get to them.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the replies. I was also informed that the rear windows would have to be removed to sort the speakers
out which is one reason I never pushed the matter, but I'm now starting to think that maybe there are speakers there
and they just need wiring in.

Oddly enough I just bought myself a goose neck web cam with a light on it which I intend to insert into the sills to find
out what condition they're in (6.99 + PP). I think I'll use this to look up the pillar to see if I can see any speakers. Failing
that I'll remove some of the panels and carpeting and look for the cables and checkout the 968uk website.

Thanks for you help.

There be already be wiring, as my non powered pansanger seat had a cocention block under it. But the whole point off a club sport was lightness so. I can't see why there would leave speakers there? The speakers are covered by a grill which sticks out from the panel, well at least in a 944. Could be flush in a later styled 968. But removing the window sounds extreme. I would imagen if no speakers are in place u would cut a hole 2 suit the dpeackers ur using. And feed the wire up 2 the hole mAde. Hooking or tie in with some string and pull them though. Wire up and then fix them. Don't no if u could could split the feed from. The door speakers before it enters the door then run the new Feed along the door sill And under the rear pannel? Or though the sill from under the carpet?

Some 968's came with speakers others didnt (mine has them )i think they are 6" round from memory.Regarding the rear trim panels, the 944 has them tucked up under the window rubber so the window has to come out(5 min job) however the 968 trim panel is shorter at the top so sits up to the window with a black plastic trim round it so the window doesnt need to be removed. All you need to do is remove the door rubber/trim round window(just clips in)/a few philips screws/seat catch and a black cap on the c-pillar although you could leave the last 2 items in place and just lift the panel up to have a look.

I poked a goose neck web cam into the cavity and it looks like there are speakers behind the panels.
I just can't work out why they're not wired in. I'll take the panelling off to get a better look and then
get them wired in.

I'm glad to hear it won't be necessary to remove any windows. :-D

Muchas gracias amigos.

Removing a window sounds a bit risky

I have some good news and some bad news. Random-hero was right, it's quite easy to remove the rear panel and get to the speakers. Even better I appear to have a pair of deep range and high range speakers in the back. I got a little confused by two spare wires (one red + one red and brown) but these seem to be for a different type of radio (non-equalizer).

On the negative side the cables I'm trying to trace (One yellow and one Brown & Yellow + one Red and one Brown & Red). These seem to be the ones I need, unfortunately they seem to head off under the carpet behind the seats which are well and truly glued down. I'm guessing they appear somewhere around the radio but I'd like to know a bit more their route before I start trying to connect more wires to the back of my hi-fi.

If anyone is out there that has these speakers connected (nudge nudge random-hero) are these the colours of the wires going into the back of your hi-fi. No rush as I won't have time to look at it this week.

So the rear speakers have never worked in the whole off your ownership. Now and past. I would think
That the wires have been disconcet maybe when a head unit was maybe changed b4 you got the car? Can see it be a flaut in the wire. So early in it's life.

So the grills in the pannel are fixed, 2 the panel? Seems strange the grills dosnt come away leaving the speakers.

I was considering removing the speackers 2 get asseces 2 the back off some dents. But I don't fancy removing the glass and rubbers, if I have 2 replace the rubber it then don't be same coulor as the rest around the door window.

I'll have a look at the wire colour during the week and report back if they are still there because the speakers were thrown away last christmas !!. The grill comes away from the panel with a few philips screws but from behind so the panel has to come off first.Terry i have removed more 944 side windows than i care to remember and not once have i managed to damage a rubber or break a glass,ll you need to do is from the bottom push the rubber over the lip with a flat screwdriver or trim tool then work your way up the side rubber doing the same thing until you get about half way up the the glass will just pop out.To refit slot the window in at the top and push it in with your left hand while peeling the rubber back over the lip with a screwdriver again.
