Guys
I think you are missing a trick here.

Why not get yourself a 924 as a stop gap? Plenty of road-worthy cars about for only a few hundred quid. They are very reliable and although they don't have the grunt of a 44, they are still a lot of fun to chuck about. You can fix them for peanuts (although in the 7 years that I have been running mine, they have never let me down). All Golf mark 1 and Beetle parts.

Maybe I should hi-jack this thread and call it "why do I love the 924 so much"

Looking for something that Mrs JJ can drive. Might help to get it past the accountant! If it's too good I will be told to sell the Porsche. So a S**** Perdua fits the bill. So long as it only goes slow & makes her car sick  (Only joking I love her really. )

Have you considered Mk3 Golf? My neighbour gave one to me for free, a 1.8CL. It cost me £126 to get it on the road - including MOT, lots of trips to the scrappy to get little bits and bats that were broken, i.e. the glovebox lid is one of the favourites. It was great fun just fixing it up.

Good car, did what it had to for six months and then sold it for a profit. You can pick them up really cheap - and they won't let you down...... and nobody will laugh at you like they will in a Poohdua

I'd have one now, maybe a GTi - it's an age thing!

Treat her to a Yugo Zastava, doesn't go fast will make her sick just looking at it let alone driving it, cheap repairs as she'll just flatly refuse to use it so will never go wrong. And if you're really lucky she'll go get a 2nd job to help you fund getting the 44 work done faster :bounce:

I'm confused. Your signature says you drive a lux? A 350hp lux.. now that would be impressive! I assume you are driving a turbo now?

If its a turbo the clutch should hold 350hp but since you've ordered it, a spec clutch will definitely sharpen your gear changes :)

It may just be coincidence. My clutch has only done 40K miles since replacement. Assuming it was replaced! Maybe the indi' was totally bent. They made a hell of a mess of a lot of other jobs! Maybe they just looked at the old one & blew it off & refitted it for maximum profit. That will be £1300 sir. ???
It's not the HP thats the problem but the torque. No it's not a turbo. Spec stage 1 clutch is the same price as a stock Sachs unit. So it won't do any harm & may last a bit longer. :)

I would certainly have my suspicions. I think between me and Paul S on here we found the torque limit for the 968 clutch (944 unit without the springs) is just under 450lb/ft yet it was only designed for half that.Porsche tend to over spec rather than under spec their parts. My lux clutch was invincible! (except the rubber doughnut :? )

Just got a horrible Suzuki Alto for the winter. No doubt wifey will love it as it's £35 road tax & does 60+ to the gallon. Just got to bend my mates arm to garage the Porsche until the parts come. :blackeye:

Suzuki is doing far too many mpg. The wife has noticed & is now baying for the sale of the Porsche. Filled up the Suzuki today for £30 & it will last for 3 weeks on that. Can't believe it can do 65mpg in heavy traffic rarely doing more than 30mph. Bearings have finally come for the gearbox but the handling fee was more than the bearings! Still saved £60 on OPC prices. There SKF & made in Brazil. Might just fit an S2 clutch as an easy upgrade.

Hi JJ,

Amazing what these small cars can do. My 3 pot VW Polo I'm trundling about in is doing about 47 mpg. Fuel needles moves a lot slower than the 944 thats for sure. Its like it runs on fresh air and costs less than £45 to fill the tank! Couldn't rip the skin off a rice pudding though and has about 3/4 less power than the 944. (55bhp - feel the power!!!)

Ben :bounce:

Got a 1.6 diseasal Pissat Bluemotion at the Mo and is doing around 60mpg ? A bit frightening at first when the engine cuts out at traffic lights etc and restarts when the clutch is pushed in

Suzuki is a 4 pot 16valve with multi point injection & 62HP. Since is weighs as much as a biscuit tin if you rev the tits off it it flys though the torque steer is pretty nasty in 3rd. It's very stiff & doesn't understeer much. Quite hairy on the edge. But it's still Crap. Took the Porsche out for a blow out yesterday & it's funny how much faster it feels now! Even without full power in second due to the clutch it still flys in 3rd & 4th
