I am after a few bits for the miss's 968

where are the best places to buy and should I go for any particular makes

full timing belt kit (2xbelts 2xbearings 2xtensioners)
cam chain pad
rotor
dizzy cap
wheel nuts
alt belt
PAS belt
2x front bearings

Should I do the water pump, as far as I know it is original but they are bloody expensive. The car has done about 90,000 and is a 1994 model, non turbo.

Shop around, but stay clear off the Porsche shop! Ha just a bit over priced at times. Jj said jmc will price beat anyone and there goods will carry a warranty.

Water pump should be changed as the new belts could cause it 2 wear. If it's not so much a problem 4 you 2 get back in there again then it's your call. But rule off thumb is every 2nd belt change.

I have been looking at the porsche shop and some of their prices seem ok.
Found a couple of places selling full timing belt kits in the USA for almost half the price you pay in the UK, any one taken this option?
I will have a look at JMC and eurocar parts.

You're welcome. I've yet to order anything from him yet but I plan on getting all my belts from him in the next month or so as I've heard a lot of good things about him on here.

Eurocarparts is always good. But i would give Bert at Berlyn a call myself.

Bert Gear is good but does not stock everything. JMG http://www.jmgshop.com/ (Ring them up rather than order on-line.) Are the best I've found. Good advice. Free postage & no drama if a part is wrong or as happens occasionally substandard. They even post out the replacements before you send them the duff one back. Good old fashioned customer service. Try & order something they don't think you need they will tell or advice a cheaper/better option. Will even source the unobtainable! They go a bit further for Tipec members!
If your buying that lot you should do a front seal at the same time or risk new belts within there life. Problem with water pump is how easily it will come off. If the bearing fails it takes the belts off & kills the engine so you should unless it's been done last belt change. I did mine to be safe.

Never actually bought anything from these guys, but I did notice that the belt and roller kit for the 968 was very cheap (£159) here http://www.promaxmotorsport.com/ goto the "Belts Rollers Kit 968" on the left menu.

Wheel nuts are going 2 be a nasty surprise £££. If u havnt got locking nuts already I would buy them, that will also free up 4 spare bolts which u can't replace the worse with. I think there alloy or magnesium. Should allways be taken off by hand. If u find on rounded. Bang a 16mm shocket on over it. That got 3 off mine off.

They all went back ok after the service but I think a few will need replacing next time they come off, the alloy is flaking apart at the corners, probably where someone has used an impact gun. I personally use a break bar then a speed wrench. the old gal has a set of locking nuts, for some reason it has 968 CS wheels on a cabriolet, still they look better and offer improved grip. I know where there is a written off 928, I believe the nuts are the same so I might go see if I can 'borrow' them. The joys of old cars.

PS the nuts are £2.50 + vat each, which quickly adds up

I always use Bert for this sort of stuff. Mainly because I phone him up & say "complete front end rebuild kit for a 87 944 2.5 please, including top hats & seals" and he'll ask a couple of questions & it all arrives. Whereas anyone else wants their part nos. etc. etc.
Also if I then have a problem he'll help as he did with Matts 944 which was running the original water pump & all the grief that then ensued.
