I really need some help. I've just ordered two new front plates for the front wheels for my 1986 944. Looking at the part guide the part number is 944 351 085 00 which is the same part number I gave to the parts supplier. However when the plates arrived they have a centre lip (as per diagram). I spoken at length with the supplier who have been brilliant with me. They have ordered two more plates to see if the first set were incorrectly marked but, the new set are also wrong. Can anyone advise???

Sorry if the desciption is a bit vague if you need any more clarification please post and I'll try and explain again....

Hard to tell from the pics but it looks as if the cup sits inside the brake disc. Not quite sure of the purpose of that but oh well.

Is it worth a trial fit to see if it's just a new design on the old part?

Tried to fit - thinking it could be an update - but just doesn't seem to line up - really feels like it's the wrong part - but both the supplier and I are at a loss?

Going to try and speak to Porsche driect to see if they can help.

Thanks for your comments though..

Is it an abs car? the ring you are talking about is there to protect the gear on which the abs sensor picks up?

Hi Rich - great question..... I think the car may have ABS - but I'll check it out.

I've since been in touch with Porsche direct and the parts guys have been brilliant in trying to advise and sort out. The new part I have is the correct part - so I'm wondering if the discs have been changed and the old plate is a plate for the new discs??

Porsche said worst case is run without the cover plate - as I'm not doing loads of miles there should be no issue.

Thanks everyone for looking and trying to help - will keep you posted.

It looks to me as though you have a pre-ABS car (which all 1986 model year cars are) and new parts to suit an 'ABS car' (which may well not have ABS, few did). The confusion will probably come about because the 'ABS cars' were 1987 model year and onwards vehicles, but they were built from September 1986 onwards. Even if registered in 1986 these are correctly described as 'a 1987', if you see what I mean?

Thanks for that and it may go some way to explain the issues I'm having. So am I better looking at an older parts guide? This should then give the part number for the earlier model if you see what I mean.

Sadly not, I checked the early parts PDF for the 82-85 models and it was the same part number.

Perhaps theyre a superseded part, that requires adaption? If you look at a series one 944 parts catalogue itll have a series two bonnet and bolt-on badge panel - neither of which fit properly.....
