Hi, I want to replace the temperature sensor for the temp gauge that sits on top of the block - since I've had my 944 the gauge does a some strange things - I've changed the fan, radiator fan switch, cleaned all the contact points etc. The fan comes on no problem and there's no sign of over heating so I suspect that the little sender is nuked.

This is what it looks like - it's not the DME sensor, but the other one alongside:


Shopping around prices vary tremendously but so does the name of the item - most call it a sensor but eurocarparts call it a "transmitter" I think, and as they don't have a pic of the item it's not possible to know if they're selling the same thing for a third of the price!

Has anybody any experience using the Facet temperature transmitters from ECP?

Have you also checked/cleaned the contacts on the dash for the guage?
Had a fluctuating temp gauge caused by corrosion on the temp gauge connections on the dash, rather than the sender itself. It use to start OK but when it got to the first bar on the guage then began to flick around seemingly at random. I tried cleaning the contacts which helped, but in the end had to get a replacement gauge.

thanks for the reply - it's all clean back there in the dash, but the symptoms you describe are similar to mine except mine only start after about 15 minutes of driving: it jumps around and then just goes ott and sits on the red line - the fan will also work fine. If I stop and check the engine there's no boiling and the expansion tank cap is cool to the touch.

Yes - mine used to end up shooting to the redline sometimes- and a knock on the dash pane restored a reasonable reading for a while.
I cleaned the two prongs behind the gauge and this improved the reading (they were visably cruddy) - but had to in the end, go for the replacement gauge.

That temp sensor you list isnt for an oval dash car, you need 92860620101 OPC only
