Bell house should be pretty close, iv also read that Audi quttro gear box is the same part number as a 944. There's one off these engines on eBay 4 £2,800. Would mean ur car would run 0-100 in 10secs!

Don't know about the V8 but I know the Audi RS2 V6 twin turbo does not. There was one on the floor of a local breakers and I tried a 924 and a 944 bell housing on with no joy.

Wouldn't an Audi engine be a better transplant 4 this country over a chevy? As there's not many specialist and mercanics firmler with them? The engine in question is the lightest smallest v8 ? Weights about 190 kg. That's what the advert said, and that is fit 924 /944 belhousing. Think the 924 is Audi part were a 944 is Porsche, all do not greatly changed. And with the quttro gear boxes being the same?

Think I would be quite happy with 350bhp anything over the limits of a turbo engine with in reasonable cost. Is a 10src 0-100 run about right 4 1300kg rear drive car? Just what one off the online calculators spat out.

Terry, I cannot believe that the Audi is smaller than a Chevy, for a start the Chevy is OHV whereas the Audi is DOHC so it must be bigger. Parts for the chevy are peanuts, Audi parts prices are eyewatering. Massive amount of knowledge on the Lsx lumps, fitted to the Monaro & VXR8 in the UK. And TBH what does a mechanic need to know on the Lsx? It is a simple pushrod V8 with no cambelt etc. All it will need is oil change & filters.

check this guy's site out: http://www.944-20v.nl/

He's fitted a 5cyc 20v motor using a 931 bellhousing - that's the one that matches the Audi engines you can use from what I've found

Seems a bit pointless as my 2.5 lux can out gun that! There are so many used engines about with the scrap age scheme at the moment. In turbo form could be interesting. It's from the same family at least. Some would say it was the right engine! Still not convinced about the LS lump. A lot of steel in that engine & the yanks aren't great on keeping it light. Think it will be a bit agricultural....Would have liked to see you sort the super charger Jim. Still if you go for it we will know soon enough. All the Yank engines i've come across have been a bit crude from an engineering point of view.

How many ll's in bollox? The Chevy is a state of the art engine using ally blocks (most not all). e.g. the Chevy can offer DOD which is displacement on demand i.e. switching cylinders off when the performance isn't needed to get fuel economy, never seen that offered on a VAG lump. And around 20 or so lbs heavier than a 944 lump. Quite why you consider it could be agricultural I have no idea.
The maintenance of the Audi still needs cambelts & has massive complexity with completely integrated ECUs which talk to half the world, the Chevy one does but there are lots of people who have sorted that. The 20V VAG lump I'm pretty sure is Iron blocked, it is very old dating from the 80's. Some of the more recent engines aren't exactly fantastic engineering AKA the VR6. I've never bought into the aren't VW's wonderful because they aren't. My experience with anything VAG is bits are damned expensive as well. As for keeping it in the family the 944 lump has no commonality with VAG whatsoever and that includes a Boxster.

:) Sorry Jim. But was celebrating my insurance last night. :drunken: Probably most of what I posted last night was bollacks. (Can't spell so don't ask & my spell check program doesn't do rude.) Couldn't resist winding you up a bit..... How long do you think your gear box will last with 365 lb·ft of torque? Toasted mine with less than half of that. I wonder how good the kit is? How much work is involved. Be interested to read about how you get on. The results should be interesting.

Winding up a jet lagged & knackered Jim wasn't probably a good move! I suspect some of the Turbos are putting out more torque than that so it may not be too bad. I won't use the kit as it doesn't seem to offer very much. The bellhousing adapter looks pretty easy on the lathe & engine mounts will almost certainly different because of RHD. The real issue this year has been time, I've loads of things not done such as paint & belt changes apart from some domestic bits so don't hold your breath!
