Anyone ever tried putting 996 Turbo Calipers on M030 front hubs?

I'm still trying to decide whether to send my calipers off and have them refurbed but have been told that once they have started to corrode it will only be 3 or 4 years before they need doing again. So I was looking at the 996 calipers which I think have the same size pistons in as my medium blacks but are a mono-block design and don't have plates to lift. Plus theres a few on ebay at about £350 which is a little cheaper than having mine refurbed.

Anyone know if they fit or know a friendly breaker in the North West who might let me try one on my car?

Just given Simon a ring and he is more than happy for me to go up to see them on Saturday. Try a few calipers and see if I can find one that fits or at make fit with a simple adapter bracket. :D Will let you know how it goes.

In the mean time anyone know what piston sizes are in the M030 caliper and the 996 calipers or where I'd be able to find out?

Bad news I'm afraid :( I couldn't find any to fit.
The Carrera/Boxster S calipers are too narrow and you can't get them over the disc. The bolt centres are correct but I think they will only go over 28mm thick discs. The pistons are alot smaller than my calipers and the pads also looked very small compared to mine.

The Carrera 4S calipers go over the disc and the piston sizes were about the same but the bolt centres are just 10mm wider so I couldn't bolt them up. They seem to be correctly spaced out from the hub for a 4S disc so I'm not sure if it's possible to put an adapter/spacer in and still find a disc that I could use with them. Either way it would mean 18" rims and the pads were again smaller that my M030 pads.

I even tried on some 6 pot GT3 calipers but they were the same bolt centres as the Carrera 4S and just a little bit expensive.

After having a good chat with the guys in Ramsbottom, the conclusion was to either find some big Reds/Blacks, but they haven't seen any for months or have my calipers refurbed and space them out a bit for a bigger disc.

Well it was worth a try.

There's a guy in Sweden who has fitted some 996 GT3 calipers, I think the brackets will cost more than the calipers though.

If I were you I'd have a chat with Andy at Promax he'll tell you what will fit with what discs and adapters.

I spoke to promax at Gaydon, don't know who I spoke to but they said that big reds/blacks were really my only option but that the M030 brakes are so good that the difference was only marginal. I was thinking more of getting rid of the "plates" and getting a bit of an upgade at the same time.

Don't suppose you have a link or a few pictures of these brackets do you Rich? Would be worth seeing how he's spaced the calipers and what discs he's using.
