Hi. I posted about 3 weeks back about my new purchase.
Well, i got it for £600, what a catch i thought!
Well, it had a failed MOT for rust in some prescribed areas, a loose UJ on the steering shaft, and corroded brake lines at the back.
Not much to do i thought, until i got it home, jacked it up and started prodding the area of rust. Took the sill covers off (side skirts) and what did i find behind the stone chip.....not much as the metal was as good as dissintegrated!
The passanger side was quite bad, the complete side all the way to the mounting points.

Well, from then on, i have parked my car up in my garage and last night i cut out my drivers side outer sill to see how bad it is.
Well all images are attached so please have a good look at what rust can lead to if untreated and ignored!!!
I will have a few stabs at the rest of the metal in later next week when i have time, as now i have a whole week to celebrate my GF's birthday and become broke! lol

Hmmm. A familiar and painful sight for me as I was in that position with rotten sills about a month ago. I think the sill covers must make the corrosion problem worse. You look like you know what you're doing though judging by your pictures. Unfortunately, I was scared off when faced with this problem as I'm not handy when it comes to this type of thing. And specialists charge around £1200/side to sort this type of problem out.

Good luck with that lot mate. Glad to not see another 944 not ending up as parts on ebay but you are a braver man than me. I think I'd have done the same as Ben if faced with that lot.

yes m8, that's a good job. Wish I could do stuff with metal instead of 4 x 2's...

That is looking good, with all that gone comes piece of mind that it is safe. Mine had gone right up the inner sill where the seatbelt mounts which was a bit scary!

Scarey amounts of rust there pal, hope the repairs go well and look forward to seeing both you and the car at Central meets soon

I was 'lucky ' in that the rot had not yet got to the floor/inner sill structure too much and was limited in the rear suspension areas.
Indyz - you have a bigger job there, but it is doable and when done, as Jim said, you know it is good and not hiding any grot (this is one reason why I don't mind project cars and pay project money- rather than pay a middling price for a car that might look good, but be hiding problems).

Just got back from holiday and had another bash at the beast. Cut the passenger side out to find its a lot worse than the driver side, ouch!
I also took this time to remove the carpet and seat in the driver side. Looks like the rust has penetrated into the footwell so i will be cutting it out and have a new floorpan. I think i will start my own MIG welding now, its a good a time as any. Just have to practice a little to get back into it. Its got to be easier than stick welding!

PS: i will also be recovering my cracked dash with leather. Will post on that also!

Mig is easy. 15 minutes you will be making good welds. Passed all my welding tests years ago. Took me weeks to master arc welding. Minutes to learn to Mig. Any problems check you set it up right.
Tack it carefully & check everything is square & straight before going for it. You should have somebody else around with a fire extinguisher/bucket of water. As you can't see while welding what else is going up in flames.....Like your overalls. So be careful.

I was about to get a mig welder but you make it sound a bit scary JJ.I wasnt going to do my car ,only boat trailers!
