A little while ago my glass just cracked. In the lower right corrner. Iv got a replacement with the clocks, do I need 2 pull the dash out or just the instrument surround? Can I just change the glass? Or do I need 2 swap over the clocks. Must be able 2 part the glass as iv seen chrome rings fitted.

Many thanks

According to this guide, you may only need to remove the steering wheel

http://www.944time.com/porsche/944-interior-bulbs.php

These two guides also indicate the dash removal is not needed.

On my original one the glass came off quite easily & you wouldn't need to remove the whole thing. On the second one it was glued in place. Not sure if it was made that way or if a previous owner had done it. Think you may be lucky. You need to be careful removing the surround but it's quite flexible & it goes past the back of the steering wheel with a bit of twisting. If you have to take the lot out watch for a bulb on the de-mister control. Wires a bit short.

I would say take it out and do it properly. Takes about 10 mins start to finish.

24mm nut to take off the wheel, cowling off the steering column (3 little screws), remove plastic trim with vents on then 4 screws to get the clocks out.

Carefully remove the 3 multiple plugs from rear, they have 2 lock tabs each. Then about 8 screws at the back will allow you to split the clocks from the glass.

Oh, don't break your nose with the horn!

Stuart

Go to http://www.clarks-garage.com/ On the left menu select Garage Shop Manual, scroll down to the section listed 'Dash' click on Late 944 dash replacement, follow the nice instructions complete with pretty pictures

If a complete numpty like me can do it it must be simple. :D

PS As Stuart said, dont break your nose when you try and take the horn off !

Yeah, I’d take the cluster out and do the job indoors so that you can clean off all the old glue properly with a scalpel.

thanks everyone, i didnt read any of the write ups, and was simple anoth. think iv also found the reson the glass broke, the mounting point on the right had been broken and guled back togther. i think the heat that day caused the gules bond 2 fail. this allowing the intrument cluster 2 move. alldo i must add the guages didnt look out off level. iv also put some blue bulbs in were see when it dark if it was worth it or not.

well the blue light can hardly been seen, not sure if it the bulbs or if the lower relectors and tunnels that are at fualt. my old dash seem fine. iv heard some say its hard 2 read at night which is why im starting 2 think this cluster is suffering from the same problem. looks like are be taking it all apart again.

during the day you can see no light from the bulbs when the head light are up. and during then night only on dark roads will the blue seem blue.
