Hi

Still a very new 944 owner (less than 2 months!) and working through a few small problems as well as enjoying myself.

I still can't believe how complicated it was to get the sunroof operating properly but two weekends, switch and circuit testing, a S/H motor, new gears and a lot of reading has got that one sorted and I'll confess that solving the problem gave me huge pleasure!

A slight steering rack leak hasn't responded to seal-swelling additive (sorry, can't think of the proper name) but as it's very minor at present, that one will wait until MOT time.

More urgent is a slightly blowing exhaust centre section. Is this a common fault and is it reasonably easy to source a replacement or should I be thinking about a full system given that the back box is mild steel and only a little better than the centre section.

Thanks

Tony

I think the S2 came with a stainless exhaust as standard so you may have an after market one on there now.

If the centre section is holed and the back back looks bad as well I would just change the whole thing for a sportier version, Dansk make a good rear section and many people on this forum recommend them (not tried myself) but I don't think they make a centre piece so it will be awkward to get the whole system from them. I know Sprintex do a complete system for the S2 (on sale via Porscheshop @£600) and you should get club discount I am not sure if this is cheap or not.

The other option is to look on eBay there are a few people selling new back sections and second hand centres which may work out cheaper if you dont want to spend on a sports system.

I had a complete system made for my 924S a few years ago by Powerflow (waiting for the violent reponses) and in my opinion it was a brilliant job made on the car in STST with a choice of tailpipes and is still going strong with no issues for £400. This was done at a fitting unit outside Darlington (TyreSpot) and I think it depends on the guy who builds it and his skill with a welder as to what the quality is like I may have been lucky.

You may want to replace the Cat if your car has one as it is supposed to free up a few bhp and is not necessary for the MOT if the car is pre 1993 (I think).

Thanks for the information.

Does anyone have any recent experience of a stainless steel made to measure system for a 944 or any idea of how these compare in price/performance with original equipment?

My Dansk Stainless Steel rear section cost me £180 from Porscheshop 18 months ago, looking at their site the centre section is a similar price.
It is still as shiny now as when it was fitted :)

Thanks, I've now checked out the article but as I'm south of Birmingham, probably need to find somewhere a little closer to home. The idea does appeal though so I'll have to look into it.

Looks as though I'll have to bite the bullet and get a couple of quotes for a whole system, whether it be Dansk (or similar) or something made-to-measure.

Appreciate the leads, I need to go out for a drive in the morning if only to start the rationalising of all that expense. :D

You can get a complete system or at least front and rear after the downpipes from Porscheshop (Sprintex system) £532, or like I said get one made for something similar maybe a little less, like I said mine for my old 924S was £400 complete.
