Folks I left my fog lights on the other day and totally flattened my battery  . After climbing over the back seat and into the boot and opening the hatch from inside :| I now have it out and charging in the house. I have no clue about electricity and the charger I have does not seem very good, just a basic charger with no options. How long should I be charging for roughly to give it a full charge? Battery is 66amps and it is charging at about 2.2amps. Does that mean 30 hours?

Cheers,
Mike

Srictly speeking and in a theoretical world yes :P

Your battery charger , if its an old crummy one ( like mine) will have a needle dial that will show about '2' as the battery draws current. when the battery is charged
( if its not knackered) , the needle will drop down close to zero as the battery draws a lot less. when this has happened your battery should be fairly well charged.

Afterwards take the car for a jolly good run out , who need an excuse huh

Mas

Cheers Mas. Yes it is a crummy old one. I'll keep an eye on it and probably leave it over night.

It is on the kitchen table at the moment so that is bound to wind the girlfriend up when she gets home. Think I will leave it there just for laughs. I will tell here that there is a chance that it could blow up too, just for some extra badness

Charge it at the lowest rate you can. Length of charge will be capacity/charge current * 1.4 so around 35 hours or so. Be careful some batteries can reverse polarity if absolutely flat when recharged. Some batteries get the hump if discharged completely & die shortly afterwards.

Yeah there is only one setting on the charger that I have and that is what it's on. The battery is four years old so may well want replacing. I'll see how it goes. It really struggled through last winter, but I wasn't driving much. When I was driving it was with everything on, lights, radio, rear window heater. Probly going for a long drive tomorrow :D so will let it charge over night put it back in.

Told the girlfriend it may explode so she wants it out the house. She is taking a wide birth around it every time she goes to get me beer :D
