MOT time for DHX.
The car is in with Neil Garner performance engineering in Kemble. http://www.neilgarner.co.uk/
When i dropped the car off - i also gave a list of troubles i had been encountering.

The squeaky brakes are due to the fact that new pads are needed all round. :|
The funny noise after the car has been turned off is a Water pump for the turbo - that sounds pricey :(
Sloppy gear change will require a new gearstick :(

I hope the MOT tomorrow goes better.....

When David Cameron said that things were going to be hard, i didn't think it would be this bad......

I want to be the first to wish you luck after all the bother I'm having. Hope it's a pass.

Thanks Ben. I saw your thread and it left me feeling your pain.

Habve you got anywhere closer to getting the car fixed or are you keen on selling it now?

Thanks again for the kind wishes.

Water pump isn't cheap. Depends how the old one comes off. All the best with the MOT. Mines next month. :(

Rav

What sort of noise is the pump making, mine use gurgle turned out to be a little air in the system.

Gearstick could be the selector bush on the top of the gearbox.

Noise is a nasty screeching sound for about 30 seconds to a minute after i switch the ignition off.

The guys at the garage have tried to sort the sloppy gearchange from the gearbox side, but have told me that to get it spot on, it will need a new 968 gearstick.

Sounds like it may be dry, sometimes when a new main waterpump is fitted the new elbow on the front needs a hole drilling in it to let water through could be this if not I guess you'll need a new one.

Hope all goes well Rav. Had sloppy gears on my car (still seems strange saying that to you when it was yours :? ) anyway had new front and rear shift fitted which helped a bit but still couldn't select reverse and fourth very well and it then turned out had to get the gearbox out to replace a selector fork in it, pain is an understatement

Dont tell me scare stories Andy

I found a new turbo water pump from Porscheshop for £180 inc vat. As always thanks to Alasdair who already offered me a used part.

Gearstick is next on the list - I wonder how much Porsche want for that !!

Just letting you know B.R. is being looked after and it feels like every part is being replaced or upgraded

Rav,
I paid 131.99 +VAT for my turbo pump last year. It is a OPC only part I'm fairly sure so I imagine OPC minus Tipec or other discount will probably be your best bet.

I have a couple of good second hand electric water pumps here that are nice and quiet. Lot cheaper than £180!!!! Richy, the water pump runs to cool the turbo when the ignition is switched off!

I know that but it gets the water from the elbow of the main pump, via a thermostat.

I ordered 6 of the angled takeoffs for the water pump from my OPC. All came with the samepart number, 4 were black with the hole already there and 2 were white without the hole! I have seen a turbo before with a solid housing on it, whoops!

Call from the garage this morning. MOT PASSED !! 8)

They ordered a new set of pads (apparently saved over £80 on these), Turbo water pump (direct from Porsche at £130) and the 968 gear lever and bushes (£30).

Looking forward to picking up the car next week. Thanks for the support guys. Its a different kettle of fish taking a 26 year old car to the MOT station.
