Unexpectedly received a nice letter from the previous owner of my shed yesterday along with a wad of old MOT's backing up the 92k miles and clarification on the situation with the last belt change at just 90k :bounce:

But that was 3 1/2 years back

I'd factored in having to do the belts etc anyway so going to do the right thing for the old girl and give her a fresh overhaul and do the pump and seals while I'm in there so I can sleep at night.

Anyway quick dig on eBay and I've come across an outlet in the US that will supply a water pump for £112.50 delivered to the UK. Has anyone used these?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/PORSCHE-944-S-944S-924S-WATER-PUMP-83-84-85-86-87-88-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem518515204bQQitemZ350125105227QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories

It's a big big saving on the UK prices. I'm more than used to buying stuff from overseas usually high value camera equipment from HK, apart from the having to wait maybe a couple of weeks if the part numbers right and the obvious minor risk of a replacement pump being faulty which could happen with one sourced from the UK anyway this looks like a goer to me. Thoughts and feedback appreciated.

A couple of guys from here say there ok. I played safe & got an oem one as my cars a daily drive. (£100 more.) It's the quality of the bearings inside that worry me. Tried cheap Chinese wheel bearings & they didn't last a month. Also tried cheap Chinese power steering pumps. Had 3 & gave up & bought a rebuilt one from JMG. The main problem will be getting the old pump off without shearing anything. There bad to do with the head in place. Worst case would be engine out to drill out the old hardware & replace. Makes sense to do a front re-seal with belts & rollers. And a new 'stat while it's out. Used to get a lot of parts in the states but with the current exchange rate it's not so attractive anymore. You have to add Vat, shipping & import duty + a handling fee.
