Porsche 944 2.5 rear exhaust system

Hello,

I have a 1986 Porsche 944 2.5. My mid silencer is making a annoying rattling noise as the baffles have broken up so have decided to get it replaced only to notice that it looks like the front of the mid silencer is welded to the exit pipe of the exhaust manifold. Is this normal?

I am also thinking of putting a straight through pipe to a new rear silencer, does anyone recommend this? I am told it is not too noisy and should pass the MOT ok and also increases performance

Does anyone know of any companies selling a full system?

Yup system is effectively 2 piece. So bottom of manifold to just aft of the box bit 1, flane to tail pipe bit 2. Personally I'd bin the lot & get a Dansk system to replace it. It sounds good on mine & released a few BHP on an admittedly tired engine.

Shop around try Berlyn, GSF, Euro Car Part, Design911 & Type 911 etc.

Do you have a straight through pipe from the exhaust manifold to the rear silencer or are you running a Dansk mid silencer too?

Nope I'm running the original (23 year old) centre section with the Dansk system attached. If you use the Dansk middle then you have to cut & join it to the down pipes.

Promax and SAR were the cheapest when I was looking at Dansk boxes. I ended up going for a custom build instead though.

Be warned there are two Dansk systems. OEM & Sport. You want a Sport one! The OEM ones are ok but too quiet. The Full system. (Mine came from Bert Gear.) Sounds mental. It's arkward to fit as it replaces the front pipes on the manifold & has to be cut to length. If Bert hasn't got any JM garage will source you one. Mines been on for 4 years now. Wasn't expensive at the time.

There is only one Dansk middle box and only one Dansk rear box for 944 n/a 2.5 & 2.7

The middle one isnt listed as sport, the rear one is

The middle box is welded onto the final section of the down pipe as it was done at the factory
