If it was a charge for actually using your car in the "congestion" zone (which now seems to have morphed into the "CO2" zone - always remembering that CO2 isn't actually a pollutant) you could almost understand it, but the real issue is that residents don't get a reduced charge for merely owning such a vehicle - they get charged £25/day even if it doesn't move! To add further insult, congestion will actually increase when everyone sells up & buys a car under the magic 120g/Km limit which is exempt from any sort of charge - exactly how is this going to help, Ken?

The residuals of all vehicles in the zone with engines over the magic 3 litres will plummet if this madness is allowed to stand - I very much doubt that the alternative of paying over £9K a year for the dubious privilege of being allowed to even just park your car is going to appeal to many.

BORIS FOR MAYOR

PS
Official CO2 on my car is 315g/Km but I have no intention of venturing anywhere near London in it :)

I watched Boris on Sunday Breakfast, the blokes as mad as mad Jack McMad the mad man.

I'd vote for him to get rid of Ken.

suits me to be honest, the passenger transport system do with a good boost, it is easier to get round the place on the tube and buses anyway. Do you want to kill me now?

It may be easier than driving, but is still very poor! If everyone decided to use public transport it would literally grind to a halt & does anyway if the slightest problem occurs. The congestion charge worked for a short while, then went back to where it was, also the extension west has resulted in a lot more people being within the zone so they drive under their discount anyway! The finances have done nothing like Red Ken said because the costs of running it swallow up a lot of what it makes. Some very creative accounting has been done around this & some have suspicions that the running costs are much higher than disclosed.

TBH it's a god awful place & I avoid it like the plague, unfortunately I have customers up there so have to go occasionally!

There's also the widely held theory that Ken fiddled with the traffic lights in the zone in the year before the CC was introduced so that congestion went up and then reset the lights back to how they were before to "prove" that the CC was working.

The man is simply a self-confessed car hating commie who has gone mad with power

As of 2012 all major cities in the European Union are forced to have a low emission zone i.e congestion charge. This will include the likes of Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds, Glasgow, Paris etc etc.

that's what I've heard anyway.
