Do you think S is a suitable v8 ls1 conversion? Would the it just need engine, bellhousing, upgrade brakes. Or would you need 2 change the transaxle 2 turbo e.c.t? Just 4 a while this was something I was thinking a few years down the line. Still want 2 feel the turbo boost everyones hyping about

Any of the 944s are OK for the conversion. You'll need the uprated transaxle for the higher gearing otherwise you'll run out of revs. The brakes should be OK as the 911 Turbo ran the same callipers. You use the LS1 with an adapter plate to connect it up.

This may be a bit boring but I decided to give the car a wash today as it was looking a bit sorry for itself with oily marks and bits of tar covering the entire car.

First up I gave it a wash with a megs wash mitt and some gold class shampoo. to be honest this didn't move that much other than the general dirt, most oily marks and streaking down the paintwork was still there.

Next up was some AG intensive tar remover. The driver's side rear quarter panel was absolutely covered in little black dots and this stuff did a fantastic job of removing them. There are still a few on the roof but eventually I'll buy a clay bar and see if that helps remove any left over bits.

After the tar remover I had a go with some dodo juice lime prime and this in combination transformed the dull shineless black dotted white paint into something with a fantastic reflection. I really didn't expect the paint to come up so well. Pretty good for what seems like original paint.

I finished up with a bit of AG extra gloss protection before I started to run out of daylight. I'll have to do the rest of the car another time. Anyway some pics!

This was meant to be a comparison between the part of the bonnet polished and the part not polished but due to being taken on a camera phone it didn't show up. there was a definite line where it looked like a completely different shade of white though which you can sort of see part way into the reflection of the shed next to the car.

Overall shot (most of the polished parts are on the other side of the car though, oops)

polished bonnet and badge panel

unpolished quarter panel. The camera doesn't show up the horrible streaking that washing wouldn't shift

clean quarter panel but not clean wheel

clean wing

and clean roof

Just shout when this gets boring :D

Just fitted the new door today that I got for a whopping £50.

That's a complete pig of a job. I thought it was going to be easy after noticing the 83 car had a plug for the door wiring. Just a case of unplug the door, strip out the internals and transfer them to the new door.

It would seem that Porsche didn't want to make life that easy for me. On the newer car they've done away with the plug and it goes straight into the car and onto wherever the various wires need to go. Options were to cut the loom inside the car or individually remove every plug on the door without the use of a pin removal tool.

So I chopped the wires quite happily and set to work stripping down the new door (which had a few extra bits in the wiring loom and the wires had been cut very short). The handle was a bit odd on this one, same as the porsche scripted handles fitted to the car but without the porsche script. Anyway turns out it was broken inside and the lock barrel turned using the key for both my 944s (awesome security on that one). Put the nice empty door on the car and lined it up whilst it was light then set to work rebuilding it.

After rebuilding most of the door the time came to rejoin all the wires which wasn't as easy as first though. Some bright spark had decided to use lots of same coloured wires for different things in the same door! Took me ages of poking around with a multimeter and wondering why the electric mirrors were trying to unlock the doors but eventually I got it all sorted. Refitted the window and rebuilt the rest apart from the doorcard when I discovered that the micro-switch on the door handle was duff, it only recognises locking of the car and not unlocking. Looks like I'm stripping it down again at some point to put the tested and working switch from the broken door handle in.

It's been a long day and all I managed to do was change a door. I'm definitely going to be more careful with them in future. On the plus side I did get to grab the seal off the old door and replace the broken one on the 83 car and I also have a spare window and got to replace the broken window switches.

Other problems I have with it are:
  • Boot latch only working from switch inside and not boot. Is this meant to move to the unlocked position when pressed as mine constantly turns and alternates between locked and unlocked?
  • Sunroof not going into locked position so have to investigate micro-switches
  • a few bits of rust to sort out in places but sale of the other car when roadworthy will provide funds to get that done or even just sale of Fuchs from other car
  • and of course the engine!

Other than the engine and rust it's only really annoying little things wrong with the car so should be a good car when sorted.
