Hi All,

Been mental last few weeks and not had any time for the 928. But got her back a couple of weeks ago from a local garage who replaced pretty much the whole brake system and gave her a major service and wheel bearings.
Steering rack is done as well having been replaced and replaced ends etc at the same time.
Last weekend I replaced the interior with a lovely blue full leather interior I sourced off the 928UK List.
So getting there ... just a few electrical gremlins and the welding and respray to go now!
That was until just now... I moved her on the drive to get access to the other to door to investgate a non working elextrical window (no motor in place appears to be the reason!)
On trying to move her back she is stuck in park!!! ..... anyone any ideas???
To add ... the button on the top of the t selector has never worked.
All I have done to her is trip off the door card to get to the window motor, so confused why this would make the gearbox not come out of park!?
Weird .... all thoughts gratfully received!
Thanks
Regards
Paul

well as luck would have it an easy fix in the end.
I removed the shifter and found if I pushed the plastic thing in the selector shaft it released it for me.
Now I have to drive with no shifter and a screwdriver until I get it fixed. Looks like the mechanism after being broken freed itself maybe due to the warm weather?
I am missing bits between the shifter and the plastic thing though and couldn't find them on PET last time I looked.
Will have another look ... at least I can move it about though!

Regards
Paul

There are only two parts to the shift lever/handle. The handle itself and a plastic part that fits into the top, with the button on the end. There should be a small plunger sticking out from the top of the gear shifter itself when you take the handle off, and pressing this releases it.

You can still buy the shift lever from Porsche, and it comes with the plastic part, but it's £150! They appear on ebay though.

Yes, I agree with you about the parts ... I have ordered everything new from Porsche and they arrive at the end of the week.
However I also ordered the spring that goes into the shifter that shows on pet. I wonder if this is an error and only on the earlier (pre 84) cars?
Certainly the OPC Guildford Parts guy didnt notice.

Going to be interesting to see if its needed!?

Regards
Paul

There was no spring in my S4 shift lever. The plunger acted as a return spring for the button.

I thought I was right and the OPC wrong. Well by coincidence the spring they said I needed is NLA anyway. :-)
