I don't really push my car so can't recommend tyres based on grip, behaviour "at the limit", etc.

A lot of guys on the 928 list like Bridgestone S-02s. I had a set on my last S4 and they always felt secure, but they created a lot of tyre roar (main noise in the cabin really).

My current S4 has a new set of Yokohama Sport AVS and they are super-quiet by comparison. I'm not really aware of road noise at all now so it's all more refined, especially on longer trips (this is fresh in my mind as I've just done a 100 mile or so hop to Cambridge, and saddo that I am am typing this in the Apple Store). If you look around reviews they have a reputation for being quiet. May not be relevant to you as the GTS improved road noise insulation in the rear, and your priorities may be for more dynamic qualities (in other words I am a wimp!). Loads of tread left on mine but when I have to change them I will get Yokohama Sports again just for the peace and quiet.

Not had continentals on my 928, but loved them on other cars. Can't rate them enough. My A6 gets nearly 30k out of a set with superb grip.

:) I can't remember ever getting 30k out of a set of tyres, although to be fair I rarely keep a car long enough for me to do 30k miles in it, those that I have kept the longest I if I get 10k out of the tyres I'm happy. I also try and change them at 3mm as I don't like driving a car in the rain with minimal tread depth and your also more prone to punctures when they start getting low.
My local tyre company recommended either the Continental Contact Sport 3's or the Good Year Asymetrics although a mate of mine with a 996 Turbo swears by Michelin Pilots but says they don't last long, decisions, decisions, I'll let you know what I fit. :)

:) I should have said, I got the car back today and it now has fully functioning interior lights, a bonnet that stays up when you open and a proper handle to release said bonnet with. No nasty noises from down below but it shed a couple of wheel weights on it's return trip but this will be sorted early next week when the tyres are changed. :)

:) Well a decision was made and I've ordered a set of Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta's for the GTS, may not be the tyre of choice for a lot of people and may be a decision I live to regret but once I've scrubbed them in I'll let you know my thoughts on them. I considered the Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 but I really hate buying anything that supports the French economy! :)

Verdi's are a very good tyre, let us know how you get on with them.

:) Good news in that havnig been told mid April for the front tyres, they had the rears in stock, I got a phone call today to tell me that they'll be in tomorrow. Having said that the weather doesn't look very good for getting out there and scrubbing them in over the weekend, doh! :)

:) Well so far the Vredesteins run quieter than the previous Kumho's and give a better ride, no problem with grip although to be fair it's been very good conditions for all but a few days immediately after I got them so it's no real surprise that I haven't had any 'moments'. :)
