Right in the middle of Edinburgh and Glagow. A small market town called Lanark. Some pretty famous people have lived here over the years. But not Mel Gibson. A bit of a curse for work as they see me as central, so send me all over the place Dumfries, Grangemouth, Kinross, Kilmarnock, Edinburgh and Glasgow for the time being. I was even asked to work in the north of England for a few weeks once and spent most of 2008 in Hull ??????? I can't imagine moving now at my age. 1 kid has left, 2 to get rid of and we can have the house to ourselves.

I've always fancied a trip up to Wick, never been further than Inverness. I used to fix the steam boiler at the woolen mill on the bank of the Ness, it was a lovely place. If the summer is ok I might venture up one day for a look.

Did I miss you last Sunday @ Blair Athol?

Cheers,

Lee.

Insurance discount :bounce:

Do tell

My first post was on earlier discussion about Heggarty insurance. Anyway on the TIPEC website it says you can get a discount on insurance. From where? I am insured for this year but any discounts for next year would help my already non existant budget to keep her on the road. This is going to be one of the first questions I ask Flash Gordon when I join. :D

Heritage Insurance give you the discount when you quote your membership number :bounce:
I pay £220 a year for my modified turbo with all the breakdown, agreed value etc etc etc :D :D :D

I'm going to need a full belt/tensioner/water pump change before I drive in anger. I have phoned Motortune in Shotts and they are going to call back with prices. Anyone else in Central Scotland used any other garages and how much?

Thank you,

Lee.

Thank you, I haven't had the bottle to phone the body shop yet. In case they tell me I need the rear quarter. I'll let sleeping dogs lie until the weekend.

I don't know if after the body shop I should get the belts etc done first or the re-spray? I got a price today of £592+vat + a possible kit for the water pump. I don't know if this is good or not. I suppose I'll worry about it after the car is the right shape again, unless someone has advice. I will get pictures before it goes back on the transporter again and post them up. Lokks like I am looking at £2k/£2.5k just to get her on the road for the summer :o I would have been better of buy in a mint one.

Thank you,

Lee.

Nobody ever gets this. Cheaper by far to buy a car somebody else has spent £xxxx's on for slightly more than the going rate! Because you never get back what you spent. I would seriously consider breaking it for spares & buying another while you still have a wife & house. Well I still got that but only just. The voice of experience here. If only I'd scrapped mine & started over I could have saved 3K. I would say it will likely cost double what you think it will to sort out. Don't want to put the dampers on your project. It will be rewarding to save a 944 but you should go into it with your eyes open. :blackeye:

J.J.

You are right!!!!!

The first thing I should have done is researched and joined this forum!!!! That will be my advice to anyone who follows in my footsteps.

However!!!!! I hope you are right again, and the reward of saving one of these gives me satisfaction. I know I will never have a show winner with this one, but I am a very good mechanic and like the thought of challenging myselt to keep her on the road.

I actually said 20 years ago that I would buy 280 Brooklands, but I have never got round to it. I can't explain why I bought the car, and went all the way to Bolton for it. I can't explain why I bought the 924 last year, and it had to come from Devon. I can't explain why I still look on eBay for a 928 to have as a project, even although they cost even more. I think I will take your advice before I make another purchase. Once bitten and all that.

Do I get to choose what I loose first, the wife or the house? Or is it a lottery? Please let me know.

Thank you,

Lee.

There is a 928 on eBay right now with no engine. Ideal solution, and would cut down the time it takes to get from Lanark to Glasgow. I wonder what the insurance would be like. If you are going faster than the speed of sound, you wouldn't hear the police sirens trying to stop you until after you have stopped?

Whoo hoo, just had a call from the panel beater and the car is ready to pick up. He says it is his finest work, took him long enough.
I just need to phone Motortune in Shotts in the morning, if they can fit the belts, pump and tensioners in this week them it can go straight there on the transporter. If not it will get it's re-spray and get booked in to Motortune for a couple of weeks time.
I should be on the road for my birthday at the end of May, here's hoping anyway.

The transporter will be taking it to the paint shop, Motortune can't fit it in until the 22nd of April. I suppose if they had space this week then they can't be busy, so it might be a good sign if other people trust them with their Porsches. I want to go and get some pictures @ the paint shop later today, however I'm stuck at home waiting on another transporter delivering my brand new Insignia and picking up the old Pug' 407 ( for the motorway to work every day ). Waste of a day sitting here. Still things are moving at last.
