im running 18" wheels with brand new prille p zero or rosscos, the front were n4 rated (porsche aproved) but weather this really makes differnce, when the car wasnt intended 2 run 18" wheels.

promblem is they are summer tires and i ran them all year, in the snow. psi i was running 33 all round then up the rears 2 36psi. i kept an eye on the wear, seemed even. but after the snow and some playfull actives i noticed the centers on the back are very low, out side are fine at about 5mm/4mm both side inside and out. so this wear is an idacton of over influation. and speed up from spinning up on the ice. the front are even wear at about 6mm.

my question is what 18" tires do you use? any good and what psi

Got a set of p zero rossos on my Passat and although they don't last all that long they've lasted significantly longer than that. I have a habit of chucking that thing around and wringing its neck too.

Only thing I noticed with mine during the ice and snow was that they were next to useless.

Over inflated if the centres are worn. Also Porsche had a TSB for 17" on the 944 S2 ONLY & it involved 968 castor blocks & a geometry change. They didn't recommend 18s at all.

Edited to add the pressures sound too high anyway. I run 32 all round on 16" on D90s.

I tryed 2 find out which tire pressure was correct, it's sirguessted that an increase of psi 4 every plus size. 18"are not recommened? Is the trade off handling? Can't say iv noticed a real differnce on the road. Mayb track use would show some weakness. But the larger width has increased grip, well it seems that way. As well as tram line, heavly rutted roads the steering is some what twichy at times. Most guys over at rennlist are running 18"

Any other tire brand recommendation? Some help prevent curbing.

They maybe running 18" but they aren't recommended by Porsche themselves & if you had an accident you could feasibly be in the poo with your insurance even if you did notify them.
Not sure you'd get extra grip, your footprint & loading will stay the same. Plus 4 PSI every increase in size, sounds very wrong. I suspect the pressures will stay pretty much the same or even reduce.
The trade offs will be increased unsprung weight from the bigger wheel & tyre, increased precession & tramlining.

I had PZero's on my S2 and they didn't last 6000 miles and I had them inflated properly.

Rather than buy new tyres I changed the wheels back to stock which transformed the car.

P zero rosso are a very soft tyre and 6000 is about the maximum you could expect out of them.

One of my sets lasted only 2000

That is more a reflection on your driving Paul  Any truth in the rumour that the boys have to wear neck braces against the G force when in the back?

Unless there's a advantage on track. I wouldn't recomened them 4 the rear of a 944, as a road car, mayb in 16" there an afford able tire 4 the milage, I would still say there look over inflated.

Your right with regaruds to the limted mileage you can expect, as your not the 1st 2 of told me. Any tire recommendations?

I'm using Uniroyal Rainsport 2 all round on 16" D90s. I would totally recommend them. Can't vouch for tyre wear though as I have done less than 1k on them. So far so good though, excellent grip.

I thought I'd worn mine out quickly on my company car, actually so did my boss. Little did I realise later that he has the same tyres on his 911 and he drives like a stabbed rat. I must ask how the hell he gets them to last so long.

Terra, I run 18" wheels with Falken 452 tyres @ 32PSI all round, took the pressures from the 968 turbo guide and adapted as that had 18" wheels aswell from the factory. Was recommended to run at 38PSI when I first had them but handling was all over the place. 968 castor mounts are a must with 18's and a good 4 wheel laser alignment to sort out any camber issues.

The P Zeroes on my Golf lasted about 8K miles on front and 10k on rear but it is a heavier car then the 944 especially at the front with a 2ltr TDI engine.

What sort of mileage should one expect from tires in genral? I thought it was more 12000-18000?

Don't think are be using prillies again, thought the expensive brands lasted longer.

Ariel andy, seems I was about right with the tire pressure, think it's more a case of soft tires spining up on the ice, did get stuck afew times. I
you sirgessted 968 castor mounts b4. I had the alliment checked, but not lazer.
