I'm going black, car is currently red. Spary shop have strongly recomened a black pearl same used on miturbushi. My only worry is that it will look tacky or gimicy. Iv had a real hard time finding this colour, anywere in the flesh and on the net.

I will get a spary out a day b4 2 help make up my mind. Just thought are gather a few opioins so feel free

If it bugs you now it will bug you forever. You haven't chosen the colour, it has been recommended (sold) to you, so go and pick one you like and don't have any worries about.

I have always thought, and my wife always tells me, that my old Guards Red 944 2.7 Lux looked much better than my Cobalt Blue one.

There's nothing wrong with a shiny red Porsche....

We’ve got a black Mitsu L200 at work and it’s a perfectly decent black—doesn’t look much different to my 944 when they’re parked together.

I’d say do it, but demand a test first. Since the shop are recommending the colour, tell ’em that you need to see a sample before they go ahead—even if it’s just on a spare chunk of metal they have lying around.

You're offering good advice, but are your L200 and 944 pearlescent? Going 'normal' black is fine, but the bit he's worried about is the pearlescent effect.

I would ordinarily say stick with the original paint colours that Porsche used in other words if you're gonna go black use their shade of black but having owned an alpine white 944S (now gone to the classic car graveyard in the sky) :( I would agree that other shades are sometimes better. I would park mine up at work and one of the other lads on the watch had a white Audi a3 and if he parked it next to me it made mine look like it had lived it's life in a pub vault smoking serious amounts of woodbines, yet on it's own it looked like new (copious amounts of 3 stage meguiars). I think at the end of the day it's all about personal choice, like the others said get a sample off them, your spending enough money.

Personally I wouldn't go black. It is an awful colour to spray & shows every ripple in the body. I've painted quite a few cars & black shows every mark. So unless it is a mega ££££'s respray, stripped back to bare metal shell then personally I'd go for something a bit more forgiving. Also black looks continuously dirty, great when first cleaned but lasts a few hours before getting dusty.
Incidentally pearlescentprobably won't be black because of the silver flakes it'll be slightly grey overall.

Pearl ment 2 allimnate any hint of brown tried black, but I guess I'm just worryed it gona look 2 gimcky.

Was there many other hint of coulors showen/ brought out in the sunlight?

My 944 is Alpine & it is a dirty white, hence the respray is in RAL 9010 which is a more brilliant white. Paint now bought & sitting in garage so no going back now.
I did entertain thoughts of GT3 orange but decided with a burgundy interior it would look :pukeright:

Good luck with that, I don't think you'll regret it I think it will look mint. After looking at other shades of white I could never understand why Porsche went with that one.

Porsche paint codes was the frist thing I looked up, for the 944 alone there's 4 types
black
saten black
mertalic black
and another black.

There a very well recomened spary shop, resonabley priced, got 12 blokes and there's always expenssive cars in there, lots of brand new cars get coustom colours there. But the real truth will be told when I get it back. I like the shape off the 944 so much I want one in each colour, lol. Think black looks tidy round the chunky trim and door handles. Red is deff a head turner. But that's not what my ownership is about.

That’s a fair point, no they’re not.

I did have a flake metallic black 944 about three years ago, and that often looked grey in comparison to ‘real’ black.

There really is no better way to decide than to get that sample painted and take it outside to look at in different light conditions. Look at it in sunlight (if there is any!), in the shade, next to other cars, etc.

My only problem with changing the colour is are you going to do the engine bay as well. But it's a personnel choice & you should go for what you like best. Agree with Jim that black will show every minor imperfection. But if the spray shop do it right that shouldn't be too much of a problem. Reds still the fastest colour though. :D

The standard 944 blacks were

LO41 - Black
LY9Y - Satin black
LY9Z - Panther black

The first one is just a plain black, the last two have a metallic flake to them. From a distance they all look identical, its not until you get closer or see them in bright sunshine that you notice the metallic flakes.

If it was me I would use a Porsche black on a Porsche car and make sure you get the colour code in case you have a bump later down the line and need it redoing

Thank you, which black is yours? Could u up load some pics? What's the diffence between satin and panther?

Porsche black makes it an easyer desision ad it the black it's ment 2 be, but like most feel about the White, it's not the nice it could be. It will only not look Porsche black side by side with another.
