Hey all, I have just joined as I have just brought my first Porsche.

My brakes squeal like a female teenage asbo being thrown out of a pub so I thought I'd buy a manual, take the brakes apart and fix with ease.

Ha, ha, I can not get a manual any where and I even rang Haynes and they say they never even made one as not enough cars were produced.

Does any one have any suggestions or know where to point me?

I have a 1991 3.0 16V 944 S2 with front and rear rear discs.

I didn't want to start ripping them apart with out a manual in case I broke some thing or could not get them back together again.

Thanks all.

Hi,

Hello and welcome to TIPEC :hello1: Haynes do a manual for the 944. I have a copy. I purchased mine off Amazon. Any questions, just ask the forum. We're a very approachable bunch and usually manage to suss out everyone's car problems eventually.

Any pics of your car?

Hope this helps.

The Haynes manual isn't overly useful. It only really covers the 2.5 with a square dash and I'm pretty sure S2 brakes (infact anything other than the single piston brakes) are not covered.

It's also rubbish when it comes to torque figures, never seems to have the bolt I'm trying to do up.

Also look at the 'Garage Shop Manual ' section at www.clarks-garage.com

It's a home written DIY manual to do all the major jobs on 944's and can be a godsend

Thanks all, many good tips here.

I did just down load a work shop manual for the 944 but there are some differences to my car.

The previous owner said my car has Brebo brakes. Does any one know if these were an option or is this a modification to the car?

Grrrrrr horrid squealy brakes sound bad.

It is Rick Cannell & others have posted the link. The Haynes manual is .....crap it covers a very early 944 in the US. So is irelevant to most 944s in the UK.

S2 & Turbo brakes are made by Brembos for Pork which accounts for the high spares prices.

I hope in your case that it's simply down to copper grease on the pads. Otherwise it's a case of getting the calipers partially refurbished due to the dreaded plate lift.

Or it could just be rust contamination easily cured by fitting new pads.

You might have competition pads that need to be glowing hot to work.

Standard Porsche pads are actually quite hard by modern standards. This means that they tends to be quite noisy, a good dust removal & tapering the square edges off should work.
