there wasnt anything to throw money at ! the woman had a job managing a non exiting project ! I could have employed a staff nurse or 2 support workers for what she was paid. It does annoy me

Thats the problem with trying to run the NHS as a profit making business (LOL). As a tax payer it annoys me too. They threw money at a non existant project by employing a PM when we all know that the daily staff need more support.

IMHO I think it's wrong that they run the NHS differently across the UK. It should have one governing body that knows what it's doing. If say Richard Branson was to run NHS as one of his companies, god there would be some changes. Why does the government let the NHS Haemorage money like this?

the last trust i worked for made me take a good managment course in order that as the ward sister/manager i would be equiped to manage, I passed the degree level course, they were quite happy to let me manage my ward, where I now work is full of micro managers who are in turn micro managed. I constantly get 3 or more copies of the same emails, all from different sources all proving that they have emailed me to tell me what i have to do, by adding others on the cc list, in reality the idea was probably mine and has gone to my boss the director the CE then back down but on the way down it has to go throught 20 people !!!!!!!!

It's a crazy situation.

I found the Gerry Robinson programme quite interesting when he spent a year with a NHS hospital up North somewhere.

If you ran a business that way, you would be in trouble very quickly.

I agree, that was never in question as far as I can see.

Personally speaking we have had nothing but the best care and service with my 6 year old Ben's heart operation and I can't speak highly enough of the medical staff.

How the hell has this been allowed to continue for 15 years?

Where are the managers?

hi guys , think I should join this debate, I did trust them with my life , last Tuesday evening I suffered aheart attack at my house in Hampshire, after debating with myself that I was not very well my wife phoned 999 within 11 mins the ambulance arrived with paramedics (those guys saved my life on the spot) hooked me up to the ECG advised me that I was having a heart attack and fully breifed me on my options (scarce !!) hit me wth the clotbusters , morphine (copious he he ) and all the other stuff and had me straight into the CCU at QA Portsmouth within 20 mins of arrival at my house , which included stabalizing me . CCU staff (mostly Philipino)were great , sorted me out . On Friday I had an angiogram , close run between stents and a triple bypass , my decision in the end , had the stents , 21/2 hours on the table (about 9 grands worth !! ) and came home Sunday morning . NHS for me are fab , the best , of course this was trauma care , I think the problems are more in the aftercare area , the caring staff , all of them were just great (Gordon , get off those fags , this could be your wake up call as well )
