Well I finally managed to source an Analogue clock for my 1989 S4 to swop out my digital one. But need the connector on the back - i believe this can be a std PC power connector?

I remember a thread some time ago regarding connecting and wiring up an analogue clock into a digital clock centre console - does anyone have the link to this to save me some search time? I need to connect the clock plug to my 1989 S4 wiring loom & wire it up to include the black 4th wire for illumination when ignition is on?

Any help would be appreciated.

Yes, got the document you sent over & very interesting read - sent you an email reply. However, page 2 link is missing and doesn't connect so some of the wiring details missing. Hence the request on here for some more help with wiring.

Looking at back of clock with male connector pins on left. Going from top to bottom connections are:

- ground (brown)
- not used
- illumination (black/blue)
- +12V (red)

A guy on Rennlist just used butt connectors to make the connections, squeezing the clock end so they would fit tightly on the pins.

I tried using a PC power connector but the shape wasn't correct and the connector positions were in the wrong place. So, I removed the 4 wires & connectors from the block,, discarded it and used each wire connectore individually.

Worked a dream, took me 30 mins to do the wiring conversion & install the clock including the heat shrink cables.

Why would you want to remove the digital clock and fit an analogue one?

I hope Steve doesn't mind me answering question addressed to him, but fully understand motive.

I upgraded from 88 to 91 MY partly because I love the analogue clock!

It's a matter of taste but for me the digital clock used in the 928 looks cheap, tacky and out of place in the cabin. The analogue is elegant by comparison.

The anologue clock does look way better than the LCD one.

slightly off topic, but the digital clock display on my 944s failed, so rather than pay £250 for a new one i managed to acquire a 968 analogue clock for the centre consol, so wired that in and used a dash screw cover filed down to fill the hole where the digital clock used to be

The 968 clock looks way better than the LCD 944 version too.

Great Help guys. Used a PC power supply connector and pulled the connectors out of the female housing - they fit the Analogue clock pins like a dream. Put spade connectors on the other length of short wire and used heat-shrink cable sheathing for the female pin connectors to stop shorting, after 15mins all wired up & ready to go. Fitted the clock quite quickly and the custom wiring looked & worked great.

Quickest job I have done on my 928 - 40 mins tops & all done.

Its possible to repair your 944 LCD (if like the majority of failed clocks the LCD "bleeds").

I wanted to keep my LCD so i got a replacement screen from this guy in the states,

Its a very easy job to strip and replace the screen( once you have removed the clock unit ..be careful as the a/c in car sensor grille is easy broken !). i have a pdf of the proceedure, he sends it once you have ordered the part.
