Literally just off the news bench from Porsche: They are debuting a surprise new concept car at Geneva Motor Show tomorrow morning.

Porsche 918 Spyder. A hybrid packing a mid-mounted V8 petrol engine and three electric motors.

“This mid-engined two-seater combines the performance of a super-sports car with the CO2 emissions of a small compact, an innovative plug-in hybrid concept reducing emissions to just 70 grams CO2 per kilometre and fuel consumption to 3.0 litres/100 kilometres (94 mpg imp). Within this concept Porsche combines a V8 power unit delivering more than 500 hp and three electric motors with overall output of 160 kW.”

I see a Lotus elise too! More concept than car.

Yup deffo looks like an Elise! Quite nice though.

I'd take bets that if you turn off the petrol engine, battery power will only last 5 miles!

At least they are starting to look into the development

I’m tempted to ask Ladbrokes if I can put money on Porsche building this car.

Bloomberg are reporting this morning that Porsche have already taken almost 900 official letters of intent from people who want to buy one. Porsche say that they need 1,000 orders to make building the 918 Spyder a sound investment.

16 apparently! i could commute on electric and save the petrol for weekends, would just need access to next door neighbours mains supply.

looks-wise its OK... maybe im getting too old to appreciate modern car design.
