Best tyres for a 928 GTS?

Post by 928GTSM »

:) I don't envisage the Kumho tyres on my car lasting long, they were fitted when I bought it, as I like to change my tyres at 3mm and they down around 4mm now. The 64 000 dollar question is what do I replace them with. I'm aware the Kumho's are a budget tyre although some people seem to like them, I'm not really after a budget replacement. My primary concern will be all round dry/wet grip and ride comfort/road noise rather than longevity. I've read numerous tyre reviews on a website but most of these are from people that own a Ford Focus, Audi A3/4, Subaru Impreza's etc. with a few from people with RS4/6's, so altohugh some are powerful it's only the S & RS 4/6 that weigh anywhere near a 928.
What are peoples experience of different tyres on a 928, I think I've got the message that Brett likes the Falken tyres, my local tyre centre recommend either Continental Contisport 3's or Pirelli's or the Good Year F1 Asymetrics, any recommendations? :)

I'm with Brett and use Falken 452 tyre's as does my friend who has a modified Skyline. Got Pirelli PZero on my Golf GT which are brilliant in all weathers but it eats them at a rate of a front set every 8k miles :| Haven't used any other makes for a long time now.

Hope that helps

I have used the Good Year F1 on another sports car and the grip was the best I ever had and little road noise. But like Andy it ate them. I don't know if driving a big saloon up and down the motorway all week made me use all the available grip I had at the weekend. None are cheap and it depends on how many miles a year you plan to do.

Good luck.
Lee.

:) I shall hopefully being doing 5 000+ a year but the main criteria isn't the cost it's getting the right tyre, as this is my first 928 I don't want to spend a lot of money on Michelin PS 2's or whatever and then find that they don't really suit the car. If the right tyre happens to be cheaper than say the Michelins then that's a bonus but I'm mainly after a tyre with good all round grip and minimal road noise rather than something that lasts for 20 000 miles but is useless in the wet and gives a harsh ride. :)
