What oils does everyone recommend for 968?
My first change since owning nearly a year ago, full service history with 118,000 miles and hasTexaco fully synth 5 / 40 according to service records , doesn't burn or leak a drop.
Is semi synth just as good for car or best to use full?

Thanks

Steve

I would personally go down to 10W40. Although if it's running fine on 5W40 leave it and stick with it. I certainly would not go any thinner.

Give Kevin or Alex at EMC Motorsport a call (http://www.emcmotorsport.com) who should be able to recommend you a grade.

I think if you are running fine on 5W40 then stick with it. I did a bit of researching on oil for my S2 and there seems to be no right answer. From what I can see Porsche recommends 0W40 or 5W40. However a lot of folk say 10W40 because you are less likely to suffer from small leaks. I think fully synth needs changed less but costs more. If you change your oil often then semi synth may be the way to go. If you don't plan on changing oil until the next service you may want to stump up the extra cash and go full synth. Mobile seems a good brand but I am sure there are others.

0W40 is way too thin for an S2 engine. It was partly responsible for the oil leaks and destruction of my last engine. I'd rather put in 15W50 Fully instead of 0W40 TBH.

But as said, just stick with the 5W40

Thin oil is fine for low mileage engines, but at over 100,000 miles I have been advised to go for a higher viscosity.
My 968 became quite tappety when I changed the oil to 5w40 last year and the advice from Hartech was to go thicker. I changed the oil a second time and used Mobil 1 15w50 and the engine seems quite happy on this, so it will get the same again when I do a service in a couple of months.

Hi,

IMO if it ain't broke, don't fix it. If its ok with what its running on, then stick with it.

I used Mobil Super 10/40 in my S2, Halfords stock it and it's on offer at the moment £19.99 for 5 Litres.
